The last may not have been heard about the recently passed Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and the Electoral Act as the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon Idris Ahmed Wase, who presided over the consideration of the two bills for passage has reportedly commended Northern members of the House for protecting and promoting the interest of the North in the eventual passage of the bills despite stiff oppositions from their counterparts from the South.

According to sources close to the Northern lawmakers, the congratulatory message was sent on behalf of Hon Wase by his chief of staff, Aminu Malle to the Northern caucus through their WhatsApp group at the weekend.

Investigation revealed that in the recently passed PIB, Northern Nigeria’s quest for oil received a huge boost as Section 9 of the bill states that at least 30 per cent of the profit generated by the proposed Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited will go to the exploration of oil in ‘frontier basins,’ which are mostly Northern states.

However, the demand by oil producing communities in the South for five per cent of the profit of oil firms was cut down to three per cent.

Similarly, in the Electoral Act, lawmakers from the Northern states also kicked against the compulsory electronic transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, arguing that many Northern states have weak internet penetration.

It was gathered that it had been argued in quarters that electronic transmission of results would reduce incidents of rigging.

However, in the message circulated by Hon Wase’s chief of staff, the Northern lawmakers were praised for protecting the interest of the North and showing unity.

The message reads, “On behalf of the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase and the Northern caucus leader Hon Musa Sarki Adar, I am directed to write and formally congratulate and appreciate all the Northern caucuses for standing firm through their wisdom and strength to ensure the Northern interest in both PIB and Electoral Act is adequately placed in a position of advantage

“There is no doubt a house united will forever get whatever it wants, giving [sic] the advantage we have in size. May God Almighty continue to unite and bind us stronger. May He bless and reward us all abundantly. Remain blessed and wish you the best holidays and Sallah celebrations. Thank you all.”

The 17 Southern governors had met recently and insisted that the electronic transmission of results must stand. They also kicked against the allocation of 30 per cent of NNPC’s profits to oil exploration.

Frantic efforts made by Sunday Tribune to speak with the Hon Wade’s Chief of staff, Aminu Malle over the matter proved abortive while the spokesman for the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Umar Puma, denied the knowledge of the congratulatory message to the Northern lawmakers being circulated in the media.

However, a ranking member of the Green Chamber from the Southern Zone of the country confirmed the receipt of the WhatsApp message with the Sunday Tribune, saying he got it from one of his colleagues from the North Central Zone on Friday night.

Northern Representatives congratulating themselves for protecting northern interests in the two bill.

I wonder what southern Representatives will congratulate themselves for?

They will congratulate themselves for help the north protect their interests.

Stupid idiots emboldened by their online urchins including those resident on Nairaland grilling dead vultures.

Electronic Transmission of Results would have made us see how it was possible for a war ravaged Borno to produce more votes than Lagos.

We would have waited to see the reality of the “KKK”(Kano, Kaduna and Katsina) votes.

But Southern useful idiots we call representatives ensured all that was thrown to the winds.

One day when the youths get angry, we will use even this manual collation of results against these idiots.

Do you ever get the feeling that you would like to reach out to our southern politicians and just choke them?
Bunch of ugly, sneaky, halfwitted, loopy wastrel's. Spit's.

fergie001. Remember I told you it's a regional issue masquerading as a party issue, the electoral act.
Hope you see now

They should congratulate themselves abeg...if it was easy, the southern lawmakers would have done it na.

They keep on walking all over their southern counterparts...time and time again. They get away with getting bigger percentages of the southern resources, while their gold is for them alone. They succeed because, at the end of the day, the southerners are greedy, selfish, and only clever by half.

Northerners do all what they do for the long-term benefit of their region, while southern lawmakers take their own decisions for the gains they would get there and then in their own pockets.

This is why real power is with them, despite the fact that the south is the pillar of this country's economy, and should rightfully wield the power.

I... myself, congratulate them.

It's a conscience issue....No Northerner forced them to do so....

Then why did Southerners vote alongside... The Govs agreed and their people in the NA, went there to vote according to their "Conscience". Their S'Govs meeting is one big jamboree.

It was clearly a well orchestrated coup against the oil producing southern states.

Don't blame the Northern lawmakers for being ' smart' . What were their counterparts from tve South doing while the bill was being debated?

I agree southerners have a problem which has been the bane of the south since independence. Greed and disloyalty.
That link to shared, can't believe the influence came from the presidency and they all fell like a pack of cards.
It's that presidency angle that makes known that it's a regional issue. A southern president would be more amenable to those innovations.

I think we will. The North just wants to be the one to determine who that will be. But they know it is almost impossible for them to retain power.

Would there be any difference if they put a "stooge" there?

One thing I admire about the northerners is their unity of purpose. I have carefully observed how they always rally round to protect their interests at all costs, I also admire how they have successfully implemented the British tactic of 'divide and rule' to dominate the south. I ve studied how they successfully divided the Eastern region into South East and 'South South' - an expression that doesn't exist in Geography . I have also observed how they lumped some states in the Middle belt region and renamed them ' North Central' to increase the size of the North. I can go on and on. People always see them as not being Smart but I regard them as the smartest of all in Nigeria.

To all those who think North is only core North, now they've seen how PIB bill passage will depend & promote the interest of all Northern states especially Benue, Plateau, Niger, Borno, Sokoto, and Bauchi states. Irrespective of our differences when it comes to regional politics and decision making, North first!
To all those making noise about electronic transmission of results should know that Electronic Transmission won't change figures but only improve the truth in the mind of voters. Doubting the actual figures of voters is absurdity to the highest order, with opposition parties taking part in election & Introduction of SCR, it is ridiculous to think some figures are hoarded.
Electronic Transmission is almost impossible and may likely be contentious issues if approved without improving our broadband penetration to the whole country. All votes counts, no group of people are more important than others.
Believing or accepting every theory with no consideration for realistic side of ideas is self deception!
