There Are No Indigenous Igbo Communities In Akpanya Or Igala Land by Dwiseone1: 10:44pm On Jul 19, 2021
Akpanya community has always been called Igbo community by uninformed group of people who deliberately attempt to cause mischief. Akpanya in Igalamela LGA, Kogi State is purely Igala community hosting Igala natives, with Igala beaded chiefs called Agbabo Ina Akpanya and Onu Akpanya. The Abagbo Ina stool has being in existence for over 300 years.

Note: This article is about the indigenous clans that make up Akpanya community. These natives are Igala people from the Achadu Oko Attah Igala dynasty. In Akpanya and across the Igalamela LGA there are no indigenous ibo community, rather there are pockets of ibo traders residing in the community as tenants. They do not participate in traditional affairs. Every traditional authority existing in Akpanya community is vested on the natives, under the chairmanship of the Abagbo Ina Akpanya.

Some group of people for many years took it upon themselves to mislead the public about our identity. This is evident in the numerous misinforming publications about Akpanya community on the internet. One of such was published on Nairaland. The publication was titled Igbo Speaking Communities In Kogi State, Nov 02, 2016. In the article another culture was imposed on Akpanya. Another one was published by a mischievous fellow call Onowu Igbo, who is known for his stubbornness towards misrepresenting Akpanya community on Facebook and other platforms on the internet. He titled his fake article about Akpanya thus: "Indigenous Igbos of Kogi East." It was posted on the Facebook page: Sovereign National Conference Nigeria,
20 September 2020.

Below is the link to the page.

Let it be known that there is no Ibo speaking community in Akpanya, Igalamela LGA, Kogi State Nigeria. Any publication that suggests so is false and misleading.

The above examples are few among many writers who go about misrepresenting our culture and identity. This is a notice to everyone concerned and we are calling on those writing stories not approved by Akpanya Council of Elders to stop the mania.

People living at bounder line are usually multilingual. That Akpanya community share common boundary with the ibos doesn't make them ibo.

The Akpanya Council of Elders, headed by the Abagbo Ina Akpanya is the custodian of Akpanya culture. This body recognises every Ogujo (Elder) Akpanya that ascend the throne of most eldest people in Akpanya. The Ogujo and Akpanya Council of Elders approve every festival that take place in the community. The council's responsibility in this regard include making sure that the correct cultural rites are observed. That is why before one can write anything about the history and custom of the people, a consultation must be made, whereby, permission would be obtained from the Akpanya Councill of Elders. For example, J. S. Boston, the author of The Igala Kingdom consulted the then Attah Igala, HRM Aliyu Ocheja Obaje GCFR, before he could write about the Igala kingdom and Akpanya community.

Only such consultation as stated above makes any information about Igala land and particularly, Akpanya community, authentic. The heritage that the elder population possesses including the traditional knowledge system contains many positive and productive elements that are really invaluable for the entire humanity.

We always question every body of work that fail to interview the Akpanya natives, especially the custodians of Akpanya history and tradition. And any narrative that is not supported by the documented and oral tradition of our people, should be reject vehemently. These are some of the ways to keep everyone in check.

The people of Akpanya in Igalamela LGA, Kogi State Nigeria are Igala natives who share boundary with the ibo community but they are not ibo and there are no indegenous Ibos residing anywhere in Igalamela LGA or any part of Kogi State.

There are no Igbos in Kogi

Is same as

There are no Nigerians in Nigeria.

Fulanis want Igbo Muslims, but draw the line of tolerance at Igbos in Other states.

That's a really shallow way to view the world.

Ekwuloko in Igalamela/Odolu was originally an Igbo community founded by migrants from Ekwuru village in Nimbo, Enugu State. A lot of communities in that axis were founded in a similar fashion by the Igbo; and despite the Igalanization that has been going on there since the beginning of British rule, Igbo is still widely understood and spoken in that axis.

But you people will never tell this truth.
