We all have a history. Blacks were originally foods for the whites to feast on; sell, use and discard as common items. It does not define us even though it is a part of our history.

The idea that Igbos of old were taken as slaves by the Old Bini Kingdom does not change or mean anything. The Old Bini was formidable and vast. It does not necessarily make them cowards.
Igbos were not taken as slaves by the old Benin kingdom. Stop listening to history revisionists.

he meant in ratio to your population

And I'm still asking you, do you know the factors that led to our huge population?

Igboland was largely peaceful and the soil was very fertile which led to a boom in population. Same couldn't be said of other areas in the South and Middle belt that faced continues wars, killings and attacks that made settlements for extended periods very difficult.

I still repeat that Igbos still have the largest landmass in Southern Nigeria after Yorubas. If you look at the SW geography, you will observe that Oyo state and the surrounding areas have similar geography with the middle belt, with lots of hills and grasslands unlike Igboland that is densely vegetated and must have been difficult to expand. Also, when you consider that Igboland used to have very fertile soils, then you will understand there wasn't need or the motivation to seek for further lands afield.

What this article implies is that the places named Forcados and Escravos are named after the Delta Igbo slaves of then Benin Empire. This is huge. So whenever you want to refer to a proud Benin slave amongst the Delta Igbos you can call him Onye Escravos or Onye Forcados.

why didn't you conquer your smaller neighbours like Yoruba? undecided
Only about ⅓ of Oyo is grassland
Yoruba land is really big
About ⅛ of Benin republic is Yoruba too
Yoruba conquered Dahomey and ruled Benin
Yorubaland also has dense forest

This could be true. In Ikwerre land we had a lot of Igbo slaves. They were called Owhu. (Slaves) This is not to say we conquered the Igbos, they were bought since they would be carried across Ikwerre land on their way to the Atlantic,
The strong men among them would be brought off by well to do Ikwerre men and other tribes along the coast line.
You don't have se*nse.
What do you think that Igbos call slaves?

What about the yoruba slaves found all over South America? Brazil.

Reno should be matured enough not to believe everything he reads.

I agree it's nice to study history, but right now every southerners focus should be on the present. Simply put 2023 will be the most important election in our lifetime. The Fulani are not going to give up power easily. Buhari will either try and engineer a third term or hand pick another Fulani as his successor. The south needs UNITY now more than ever to confront the challenge ahead. Let's leave the past in the past and focus on securing a brighter future for our children.

Or they execute a coup by their fulani brothers in the military, then reorganize another Democratic dispensation with another fulani as the president. Or make the country very unsafe to warrant buhari to continue indefinitely until they achieve their goal of total control of the country with Islamic jihadists

Ending the slave trade.
This meant a glut of slaves that were freed suddenly in a population that had developed an evolutionary reproductive strategy to cope with unceasing slave raids
A land that is victim of slave raids regularly is not "LARGELY PEACEFUL"
We see a boom in Nigeria population generally over the last 50 years because more children are surviving because of vaccination not fertile soil

GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR BACKWARD REASONING.
A Comparative Study of Palatal Rugae Patterns among Igbo and Ikwerre Ethnic Groups of Nigeria: A University of Port Harcourt Study

Background. Palatal rugae pattern of an individual is species specific and is said to be as unique as finger print.

Aims and Objectives. The aim of this study was to identify and compare the rugae pattern of Igbo and Ikwerre populations in Nigeria for human identification purposes.

Materials and Methods. The present study was conducted from random sampling of University of Port Harcourt students. A total number of 140 subjects (70 Igbos and 70 Ikwerres) of age bracket of 18–30 were used.

Results. The different shapes of rugae were obviously observed with varying degrees of predominance among the two tribes. The most predominant patterns are wavy and curvy followed by straight. The Igbos were predominantly wavy while the Ikwerres were predominantly of curve and straight patterns. The Igbo males and females had more wavy pattern with percentage values of 51.6% and 59.9% which is significantly higher in proportion () as compared to the Ikwerre males and females with percentage values of 35.6% and 40.6%. On the other hand, Ikwerre males and females proved to be curve dominant with percentage values of 45.2% and 34.4% and this showed significant difference in proportion () as compared to the Igbo males and females with percentage curve values of 27.9% and 26.1%.

Conclusion. The result obtained from this study is clear evidence of ethnic differences in relation to sex; hence the incidence of predominance is population dependent.

Foolish write up. The Jews were slaves in Persia, Babylon, Egypt etc. The Japanese enslaved andcolonized china even mighty France surendered her sovereignty to the Germans at a point in their history, that doesn't mean anything because it's the dynamics of history. Today everyone is a slave in Nigeria until you free yourselves from the Fulani colonization.

Goodness, what is it with mushroom tribes and trying to falsify history?

Mushroom tribes never had the guts to enslave the great Igbo race.

The times of war and strife in Igbo countries allowed Igbo merchants to sell other Igbos to foreigners. This is why as far down Igboland, some Igbos had hausa slaves. Not that they invaded hausaland.

It took decades for Europeans with sophisticated weapons to technically 'defeat' the Igbos. Mushrooms trying to do the same would have been wiped out from history.

Lol.

I think it’s only you that doesn’t know other minority tribes sold Igbo as slaves.

By the way, what’s with Reno and the Igbos recently? You guys used to be cool with each other until lately.

no. Africans were goods for fellow Africans. Western Europeans are the most overrated group of people in history. Majority of Black slaves were captured by great African empires and sold to the Europeans.

Normally I would ignore this post, but for the benefit for all reading:

The only example for this minority power fantasy is a carving of an enslaved man with tribal marks. According to reno, that meant that a super minority tribe managed to enslave Igbo people.

Of course, knowing the groups renowned for tribal marks and assuming you are the ethnicity you are likely to be be; the carving was more likely a depiction of your people.
Or at least some related group.
Ijaw and Itshekiri slaves ..

THE IGBO WERE SEGMENTAL.

IT WAS EASY TO PICK THEM OFF, AS THEY LIVE IN SMALL AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITIES INDEPENDENT OF EACH OTHER.

NO CENTRALISED SYSTEM.

ALSO THE KINGDOM OF IDU FOUGHT A WAR WITH OBA TO STOP HIS INVASION OF IGODOMIGODO LAND.

THE OBA REFUSED TO LEAVE AND MARRIED AN IDU PRINCESS.

THEIR DESCENDANTS RULE OVER BINI KINGDOM TODAY.
Idu was not Igbo. In our legend, Idu is the younger brother of Osalobua, Idu is the father of tribes, Esans( who were the descendant of Ogiso Owodo) Binis, Urhobos, Ijaws, Kukurukus, ikas etc

in our legend the places called Igodomigodo was founded by Pa Idu, the younger brother of Osa the ruler of the sky, his children spread out to start families which later turned to villages and towns. The rulers were Edionwere meaning elders. Edionwere will then appoint a young spokesperson, okaiko to represent him in meetings. Okaiko is a derivation from okalo (first) ikolo (meetings). Igodo was an okaiko who deceptively killed all the Edionweres and named himself ogiso. Ogiso is from the words ogie and iso. ogie means king and Iso means sky or far away or unknown. Igodo claimed to have descended from directly from pa Idu, the younger brother of Osalobua(God) so he became the first Ogiso. The Ogiso dynasty ended with owodo. The word idu is still very present in Esan as Idumu which means Quarters. Idumota, idumuagbo etc were created by Esan soldiers who colonised Lagos
