The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday said it is optimistic of total victory in Saturday’s local government election in the state.

Seye Oladejo, the party’s Publicity Secretary, said the APC is not bothered about the noise being made by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whom according to him, victory has been taboo for since the return of civilian democratic government in 1999.

He said, “We are fully prepared and absolutely optimistic of victory in the 20 local government areas, 37 LCDAS and the 377 wards across the state.

“This is a test run of our preparations towards the next national elections and further confirmation of the acceptance of our party across the state.

“We are unperturbed by the blabbing of the opposition for whom victory has been a taboo in our state since the inception of democracy. It’s instructive that the elections coincided with the Olympic Games where participation is sufficient honour.”

That’s why Delta, Rivers, Enugu, Abia, Bayenlsa, Akwa Ibom etc all need to be rescued from the one party no opposition that PDP have subjected them to since 1999.

As long as that party is being elected into power by popular vote in democratic elections then it's not a problem. Changing parties just for the sake of it doesn't necessarily validate democratic tenets. Besides, technically speaking, APC as a political party hasn't always been in power in Lagos. AD and AC/ACN ruled the state before the APC ever came into being. Unlike states like Enugu and Delta that have always been under the PDP since 1999. I don't hear anyone making any fuss about those states being under one party. And these states aren't doing better than Lagos in any way.

It's a jinx that's yet to be broken
