Court sentences man: An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Friday sentenced a 29-year-old man, Amos Olatunji, to one year in the correctional centre for burglary and stealing.

According to the prosecution, the convict broke into a shop and stole a mobile phone, one engine oil, and two engine cups worth N16, 800.
Following his guilty plea to the three-count charge of burglary, stealing, and wilful damage to property, the Magistrate, Mr Shotunde Shotayo, sentenced the convict to one year in prison without the option of a fine.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Cynthia Ejezie, told the court that the convict committed the crimes around 2 a.m. on July 18 in Winners’ Area, Ota.

She claimed that the Olatunji broke into the complainant’s shop, Halemah Tijani’s, to steal a mobile phone, one engine oil, and two engine cups worth N16, 800

The prosecutor went on to say that the convict also damaged the complainant’s shop’s ceiling, which was worth N20,000.

She said that the offences committed contravened Sections 319(9), 413(2) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
