He ran because he knew he won't get justice. Michael Jackson suffered similar allegations untill they made him poor, running from one country to another (accused of child sexual abuse) and later found that he was just framed. US people are popular on staging rape allegations on enemies because it fetches tough penalty.

Assange has multiple cases to answer in different countries, US want to extradite him and put him on trial in the United States on espionage charges for his role in publishing American military and diplomatic documents.
There is also British efforts to extradite him to Sweden. He is wanted for questioning on accusations of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion brought by two women in Stockholm in 2010, allegations he has denied.
