*MEET JOKE...*

She's from Osun State, the South-Western (Yoruba) part of Nigeria, but lives in Enugu State (Igbo land) and owns a restaurant called Dmala where she sells local delicacies.

She's very good with making *the Yoruba delicacy called Amala* and as a result of that, Amala has become the *primary food/product* served in her restaurant.

Her business is located in *Enugu, the South-Eastern (Igbo land) part of Nigeria* where they have different tastes for food and culture, only a few people know and enjoy eating Amala,

*JOKE HAD TO DO SOMETHING*

*SHE CARRIED OUT A BRAND RESEARCH*

From the research with the help of a brand and marketing team, they found three reasons why people are not showing interest:

1. Most people are not aware of the Amala
2. Few people knew about it but have not tasted it.
3. Some other people didn't find Amala as attractive as their regular food, in terms of taste and look.

*THE PLAN TO TAKE THE IGBOS FROM THE KNOWN TO UNKNOWN*

Joke decided to invest in her product icon - nice packaging and welcoming outlet. She created a promise a did a marketing campaign with an offer.

She also partnered with top Igbo Highlight Musicians for the brand's monthly *Food Exhibition* which promotes the brand's creed: *A taste too goo to waste*

*AND THE IGBOS LOVED THIS EVEN MORE*

Joke decided to add *Igbo ingredients to spice newly developed recipes* giving the customers lots of options while she controlled the choices

*THE RESULT*

After ten months of running with the new strategy, *sales grew by 10X* compared to the previous year.
The Igbos started to appreciate the primary product of her restaurant like never before.
She also added delivery service for those who couldn't visit the restaurant.

In the space of five years, she opened more branches with the same primary food/product and strategy. Making the brand one of the fastest growing restaurant in West Africa.

But anyone can use the same strategy with some tweak to build a brand from unknown to known.

When you decide to move from a commodity to a brand, just like Joke's restaurant, *your brand can gain global attention*

An online vendor, named Princess was complaining bitterly how a dispatch rider disappointed her and lost sales in the process.

A dispatch company, named ELITE RIDE, saw the post, liked it, made a sympathy comment and took a bold step.

A dispatch company, named ELITE RIDE, saw the post, liked it, made a comment "sorry about that ma'am, we can handle your delivery". But as usual, Princess was still angry and doubted ELITE RIDE, as they're all the same.

BUT ELITE RIDE TOOK A BOLD STEP.

The company packaged an EGG in an envelope and delivered it to Princess and said "if we could deliver this egg to you successfully, that shows how we can handle all your deliveries diligently with utmost carefulness".

If you were Princess, would you give ELITE RIDE a second thought?
