Nigerians are usually recognized by their tribal names. This was the case at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where many athletes of Nigerian origin competed for various countries which they now consider homes. Of particular interest was one of the heats of the 200m track where three athletes of Nigerian origin could be seen competing for three different countries. Their profiles are summarized below:

Femi Ogunode competes at the Olympics for Qatar. He originally competed for Nigeria before moving to Qatar in 2009. He became a citizen of Qatar in 2010.

Fostine Eseosa Desalu competes at the Olympics for Italy. He was born and raised in Italy but his parents are Nigerians.

Divine Oduduru competes for Nigeria at the Olympics. He says his memory of a difficult childhood in Nigeria motivates him to compete.
