Sit-at-home: Stop inflicting pains on Igbo, group tells IPOB

Ahead of the sit-at-home protest by the Indigenous People of Biafra which will commence on Monday, a group South-East Coalition of Civil Society Organizations has asked the secessionists to perish the thought .

In a statement in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Friday, by SECSOs president Dr Livinus Onwuteaka, it
described IPOB's directive as a pain on the people of the area.

IPOB had ordered "every Monday sit-at-home protest" in the area to prevail on the Federal Government to release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu who was rearrested in June after he jumped bail in 2017 for treasonable felony offence.

But SECSOs in the statement said IPOB's directive was counterproductive, stating that the people of the South-East would suffer more in the circumstances.

The group's statement read in part, "We've received reports claiming that the Indigenous People of Biafra has directed the people of the South-East to observe every Monday, with effect from next week, as a work-free day till its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is released from detention.

"Persons who fail to comply strictly with the directive, according to the reports, will face severe consequences. We have waited for the IPOB leadership to respond to the reports to ascertain the accuracy, but it has yet to do so.

"It is difficult for the people of the South-East, nay Nigeria, to process the essence of the directive. They are not the ones who arrested Nnamdi Kanu, nor is he in their custody. Why should they be punished?

"There are millions of people in the South-East, as in other parts of the country, who barely eke out an existence. They include painters, bricklayers, electricians, bus conductors, commercial drivers, palm wine tappers and market women who deal in akara, fried yam, potato and plantain, to say nothing about millions of young men and women who are unemployed or underemployed.

"To ask this category of people, who are still smarting from the effects of the COVID-19 lockdowns, to stay indoors for a whole day every week is inconsiderate.

" Even Nigerians with fairly good paying jobs are managing to live. The national economy is rough. Inflation, for one, is at an all-time high. These are really times which try men’s souls.

"What is more, the purported directive will end up stifling businesses in the South-East which already has more than its fair share of national problems. It will make the Southeast less competitive, forcing existing businesses here to leave. As has been noted several times, finance is a coward; it goes to places where it is not likely to be threatened easily.

While asking the people of the area to ignore the IPOB directive and go about their normal businesses, SECSOs added, "The threat of violence complicates the scenario. The statement that sever consequences await any person who fails to comply fully with the directive not to leave his or her house every Monday invokes the spectre of Igbo on Igbo' violence. This kind of fratricidal violence is the last thing the Igbo want, especially at this critical point in our history.

"The directive ascribed to IPOB is most likely to affect educational development in the South-East most adversely. If pupils and students and their teachers go to school only four days in a week whereas other parts of Nigeria study for five days, the quality of learning in the zone will collapse dramatically.

"If our detractors have not been able to slow down our fantastic educational advancement in the last couple of years, why should an Igbo group spearhead a campaign which will make us lose our cherished competitive edge in education?

"We wish to advise any group which wants to take a decision that will have long-term consequences on the Igbo to consult extensively with Ohaneze Ndigbo, among other stakeholders in the South-East. Unilateralism is not the way to go."

IPOB are not the one killing Uzo-Uwani people in Enugu. They're not the ones raping and slaughtering men and women on their farms. Or are they the one carrying out massacre in orlu right now. Or was it them that raped and jailed women in Obigbo

If you trace the lineage of these ipob miscreants, their fathera were slaves, messengers, sacrificial animals to gods. According to Joe Igbokwe those people are nonentity that kanu unleash on igbos.

Igbo ain't parasites like the north that heavily relied on Niger Delta oil for surviver, which is the major reasons they are afraid the future outside Nigeria..

With Trade, science , technology and innovation, Igbo can stand without Niger Delta oil ...

And mind you, Abia and Imo state are among Niger Delta states.

How much oil do you produceundecided

Delta – 21.56% (346,000 BPD)
Rivers – 21.43% (344,000 BPD)
Bayelsa – 18.07% (290,000 BPD)
Ondo – 3.74% (60,000 BPD)
Lagos – 2.64% (40,000 BPD)
Edo – 2.06% (33,000 BPD)
Imo-1.06 % (17,000 BPD)
Abia-0.68% (11,000 BPD)

A negligible amount of less than 2%.
You guys are also heavily dependent,so how are you any significantly less parasitic than the North?

Igbo enwe Eze.
Igbos don't have a kingship system.
So they naturally find it hard to obey authority, especially an authority outside Igbo land.
U remember the Aba women riot of 1929.
U remember the 1967 declaration of Biafra.
Most traditional rulers in Igbo communities are just there cuz of salary from government houses.
Igbos will continue to display resistance against any authority that doesn't favour them.
It's in their DNA.
The Umunna (kindred) is what the Igbo hold of high esteem.
