1. We don't have enough talent in all the sports we competed in

Apart from football and probably athletics , our best talent in most other sports are other countries' rejects.

Take basketball. Most of the players who played for our basketball teams were USA rejects. At the end of the day, we had what was in essence the USA team E playing against the Team A of other nations. And naturally we lost all our games.

The problem is exacerbated by a total lack of interest in other sports apart from football at home. We don't have enough people playing sports like basketball, gymnastics, cycling, hockey, athletics, field events, boxing, swimming, and so on...so we don't have a critical mass of talent to choose from.

2.Even the sports we are talented in....we have to compete with too many other countries.

South Africa is good at rugby...in part because most countries don't play rugby. Nigeria is good at football...but because everyone and his mother is also good at football, we have to compete with far too many nations...and thus we did not qualify for football.

Athletics is the same thing. We have good sprinters...so do 50 or 80 other countries. including (in our own neighborhood) Ghana, Ivory Coast and Liberia (Liberia has a guy by the name of Fahnbulleh...who with careful polishing can become the next big thing )

3.No funding.

Because of lack of interest in most sports...funding is very very low. Once there is no interest in sports A , B or C...funding won't follow, money won't flow, nothing.

Also, overall,. Nigeria is a broke country. We cannot afford the big budgets that other countries have.

And once there is no money, no facilities.

4.No school competitions.

There is nothing like the NCAA structure or the state high school competition structure in Nigeria...meaning a country like the USA can find and raise talents from such competitions, while Nigeria cannot. Don';t even know when NUGA last held its games .

We have talents, even more talented than done of the countries grabbing that hold but our leaders and their habits of embezzling funds and not releasing for these athletes to be taken care of, no motivation, nothing,no planning, there is a lot of things that wrong that cannot be solved if the same people keep ruling.. Our president doesn't even know what they call sport let alone loving it

We have talent...but not enough talent.

Also, embezzlement aside...which happens..even if the money was not emblezzled...it is not enough.

Alozie, our best 100m hurdler, changed to spain because Nigeria could not offer the $24000 monthly Spain was offering her. Because our budget no fit reach Spain's own.

And we don't have the money...for things like sporting faciltiies in most schools, competitions, coaches, expertise, etc etc.

Then our sports administration is awful.
