Mt. 17:18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.
Mt. 17:19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
Mt. 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, `Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Jesus Christ said that nothing will be impossible for his follower. His word is final authority; however, every promise of God has some conditions attached to it. The condition that Jesus Christ attached to “Nothing will be impossible for you” is that you must have faith, no matter how small. Faith in what? Faith in God’s promises!

Mk. 9:23 “`If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

What is Faith?

He. 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

What exactly do we hope for? We only hope for something that we believe to be good for us. If we are certain that what we hope for is possible, then that is faith. Hence, a child of poor parents in an African village could hope that he could become a professor in Harvard University, which he has heard about. If the poor African boy discovers in school that he is exceptionally gifted and that a person who demonstrates exceptional gifting could receive scholarship to study in a university like Harvard and he makes up his mind that he will grow up to become a Harvard professor, that is faith. Once we have faith in something, the faith moves us to act towards actualizing the hope.

Ja. 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

In the case of God’s promises, every promise of God is not only good for us, it is love. God’s promises are so mind-blowing that the normal man wonders if they are possible. The reality is that every promise of God is a covenant and God intends to fulfill it, if only we could fulfill our own side of the covenant.

Je. 1:12 The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”

The problem then with the promises of God is not whether God will fulfill them, but whether human beings will fulfill their own part of the covenant. The starting point in getting a promise of God to be fulfilled in the life of a human being is faith. Make up your mind that you want God’s promise to be fulfilled in your life. The next step is to accompany the faith with action. However, action is not the way human beings normally see action. It is not in line with the common slogan that “heaven helps those who help themselves”. If you can help yourself, then you don’t need God in the matter.

Faith without work is dead

Ph. 2:12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence — continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,
Ph. 2:13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

We started with Jesus’ word that if we have faith, we can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move. Why do we need the mountain to move? It is because its present location is a problem and we need to be saved from the problem. Ph. 2:12 says that it is we who must get the mountain to move, but Ph. 2:13 says that it is God working in us that enables us to move the mountain. Therefore, in order for us to get the mountain to move, God must be in us. How do we get God to be in us? Getting God to be in us is the spiritual work that must accompany our faith, otherwise, the faith is dead. If you don’t get God to be in you, even though you think that you have faith, if you say to the mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, the mountain will not move to anywhere. It will now become a case of ‘If the mountain does not move for you, you have to move for the mountain’.

Jn. 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jn. 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

The normal understanding of many Christians is that if you want God to be in you, pray for God to give you the Holy Spirit. There are actually a lot involved in God sending His Spirit to dwell in man. Is the temple sanctified enough to receive the presence of God? Don’t be deceived by all the speaking in tongues going on in the churches. Apparently, gift or learning of tongues is different from gift of the Spirit. Go to the Old Testament and see all the sacrifice that was done in order for the glory of God to come into the tabernacle or temple. Even though Jesus Christ has done the sacrifice for us, we still need to apply the sacrifice to the temple, which is our bodies.

He. 10:22 Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Ep. 5:26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.

In order for a significant measure of the Holy Spirit to be in you, your heart (soul) must be sprinkled with the blood of Jesus through word of faith and your life (body) must be washed with pure word of God.

Jn. 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

2Pe. 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2Pe. 1:4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

God has given us His great and precious promises so that through the promises we may operate in His divine power and hence be like God. The divine power enables a son of God to overcome every obstacle—sin, disease, lack, enemy attacks, etc. The key to divine power is the promises of God. In Jn. 15:7, Jesus said that if you remain in him and his words remain in you, you may ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you. To remain in him means that you are already baptized into Jesus Christ in water and in the Spirit (Jn. 3:5); then you must be focused on the spiritual way of life, as opposed to the ways of the world.

His Words abide in you

Jo. 1:8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Jn. 3:34 For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

If the words of God abide in you, then you are fulfilling Jo. 1:8. Jn. 3:34 says that if anyone is of the habit of always speaking the promises of God that applies to whatever situation in which she finds herself, God continues to increase the measure of the Holy Spirit in her. Divine power comes through the Holy Spirit (Ep. 3:16); the amount of divine power a person is able to manifest is proportional to the measure of the Holy Spirit in the person.

So, we see that whereas one is baptized into the Holy Spirit through prayer, increasing the measure of the Spirit in a person comes through speaking God’s word. Just as the Israelites drank water from the rock on two occasions during their movement from Egypt to the Promised Land, in the same way, Christians that will make the rapture must not only receive the initial baptism into the Holy Spirit, but must also receive additional measure of the Spirit through speaking God’s word. Even in the case of the Israelites, God commanded Moses to speak to the rock to bring out water (Holy Spirit) for the people to drink. Rapture is very near; only people who increase the measure of the Holy Spirit through speaking of God’s promises will be able to make it. Before the rapture occurs, these ones will manifest as sons of God.
