A positive attitude is a powerful tool that fosters enthusiasm, promotes self-esteem, and creates an atmosphere conducive to learning. Achievement in a target language relies not only on intellectual capacity, but also on the learner’s attitudes towards learning. Attitudes could be viewed as a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing, idea, person, situation etc. The attitudes that the students should have are attitude towards academic achievement, attitude towards learning, attitude towards the course teacher, and attitude towards school in general.

However, with the right attitude, once we have the right attitude, then everything else will fall in place. Learning will be easy, lessons will be enjoyed, and in the end we have a lot to benefit from the language. Other people cannot give us the attitude needed. It comes from within us. We need to look at the language positively.
School learning is a planned activity, a model of dynamic action, an actions plan by which we can substantiate, examine and validate the truths. The motivation makes learning to produce and self sustain itself; it is an energy generator and a stimulator for the new values’ internalizing experiences.

HOW TO CULTIVATE A BETTER ATTITUDE TOWARDS YOUR STUDIES
A) AIM TO BECOME THE BEST IN YOUR CLASS

One of the best ways to cultivate a better attitude towards your studies is to aim to become the best in your class. Being the best in your class should be one of your priorities as a student. There is a saying that goes study to show yourself approve. Do not give any chance to failure, even though sometimes you may fail, but the most important thing is that you do not remain there but strive to get up, study and be the best.

B) REMEMBER THE EFFECT OF CARRY OVER COURSES

Remembering the effect of carry over courses is one thing very students should be conscious of and work hard to avoid as having a carryover or carryovers can have a bad effect on your CGPA as a student who desires high academic achievement. If not for anything at least the fear of carryovers should motivate you to study hard. You must also understand as a student, that carryovers do not only affect your CGPA it can as well extend your years in school. For instance, a course that is suppose to take four years to complete will end up taking you five to six years before graduation and no student wants that so try as much as possible to avoid carryover(s).

C) ENCOURAGE STUDY GROUP

Study group is another way of cultivating a better attitude towards your studies. It is highly encouraged because it is not everything you will understand in class or during lectures. Most students comprehend better and retain when they study with other students. This is because their fellow students take time to explain and answer questions they have better understanding of than other students.
Group study will also motivate you to study more especially when you see that others are doing much better than you, it will help to lift your spirit of study and strive to be or do better than them.

D) GET A MENTOR

Last but not the least is to get a mentor. A mentor helps you stay in track. He/she will motivate you to do better and improve academically. Your mentor will serve as a guide or path in which you should follow. In all develop a positive attitude towards your studies.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, in for one thing having a positive attitude towards all you do generally in life will make you a happier and more successful family member, student, employee, and citizen. People are attracted to individuals with a positive attitude who can solve problems for themselves and others. More so, everyone has faults and weaknesses. It’s part of being human. So the first step to developing a positive attitude is to accept that you won’t always succeed at everything you do. The second step is to realize that trial and error provide a wonderful opportunity to keep improving. For instance, in the business world, professionals set goals for themselves. Salespeople, for example, have sales targets. Their employers often reward them when they reach these targets. But failing to meet a goal in business or anywhere else doesn’t mean that you are a failure. So as a student, you must understand that things may not always go the way you expect it, but make sure you keep the keep the positive attitude and keep trying until you achieve your desired result.
