You may know the owner and quite familiar with his maintenance habit. When I bought a new car a few years back, a guy who knew me kept begging that I sell the old one to him because he knew how I had been taking good care of the car.

... and it's gonna be worse as long as the dollar keeps skyrocketing.
A friiend bought a 2004 Corolla in 2015 for 1.850m, used it very neatly and sold it for 1.8m just last week here after almost 6yrs.

If you say no Toyota or Honda, it’ll be a little difficult to get a decent vehicle from another manufacturer. You may however want to get an Hyundai Santa Fe which I know are quiet economical and you should get a decent one for your budget.
