Despite Messi's 35year age, his low effectiveness for PSG is much more due to the team not giving him the ball in dangerous positions even when he's free rather than him getting old. Hence, he is now much more limited to assists, meaning he is now dependent on others.

At a point yesterday he was screaming at a team mate for not giving him a square ball which he could have side footed into goal. He can't dribble 3 players and score solo goals anymore like before, so he would thrive in a setting where there is a lot of teamwork, unfortunately that isnt PSG at the moment.

I'm with you bro as I think Messi should be more assertive with demanding the ball, but maybe he is also wary of the unforgiving French press misinterpreting his actions as arrogance. For example, Emmanuel Petit was recently saying Messi needs to lower himself and connect more with Mbappe since he is now the starboy and I was like is this guy even sensible at all? Hasn't it been Messi who has been providing Mbappe with the most assists, which other connection again? In the first leg against Madrid, Messi created three good chances for Mbappe. Some ex-players just blab just to criticize.

The major culprits that don't give Messi balls once he is free within 25 yards of the centre goal are Verratti, Mbappe himself and Danilo. I am suspecting they didnt ever like him and are bringing that personal beef onto the pitch.

As for Real Madrid, I don't think they're serious about signing him. I think there main focus is on Mbappe and they didn't know if he will renew or not. So they're using Halland as a kinda backup to keep up appearances.

Now that it is certain that there is nothing in PSG for Mbappe anymore and with Benzema not showing any signs of slowing down, we might begin to see those Halland vs Madrid links begin to go down.
