The Afriski Mountain Resort in Lesotho has been covered in snow since Friday night, having received approximately 5 centimetres of the white fluffy stuff.

Guests and neighboring residents were still enjoying the sight on Saturday as it continued to snow, "dispelling the myth and making this Friday the 13th a very lucky one for our resort,” said managing director of Afriski Mountain Resort, Peter Peyper.

“Our winter season is in its final month and despite Covid-19 restrictions we have had a great season so far."

Peyper added that the conditions throughout the season have been good, with sunny days on the slopes. “Our guests are adhering to social distancing and enjoying the outdoors. This recent snowfall is a gift to carry us through to the end of our winter snow experience,” said Peyper.

Other lodges such as Semonkong and Sani Mountain Lodge, also in Lesotho were also covered in snow from Friday night.

South Africa

Meanwhile, in neighbouring South Africa the weather service has issued a fresh warning for disruptive snow which could lead to closures of all mountain passes, widespread loss of crops and live stock, traffic disruptions over main roads and highways and some communities being temporarily inaccessible.

The disruptions are expected over the south-western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, which shares a border with Lesotho. The Drakensberg mountains in KZN are still covered in snow while Underberg saw a light snow.

Very cold temperatures are expected across the country.

Yup.even in Eswatini they have their own booze,but I reckon its taste is similar to something we already know. I once read somewhere that SA is one of the countries with the highest variety of alcoholic beverages in the world.you name it we have it!

Lol , there are serious global boozers out there IG, SA is actually a kid.

Anyway, the stats differ. SA is among top 5 according to the WHO in terms of binge drinking among people who drink but outside the top 10 in terms of the general population that drinks. That 12th position referred to purchasing power.

In fact, Africa Check ranked SA 30th in the world for drinking.

Always good to see the white blanket thrown over the landscape. It's amazing how well adapted our wildlife is to the snow and winter temperatures, especially at altitude.
