INNOSON alone will manufacture 98.3452% of that figure.

Every Nigerian is aware of this.

... Because the owner is from southeastern...which happens to be your brother...from the Yeast.
You saw the list of automobile industries and you separated only innoson automobile and left the rest as if the rest are not competent.

if we all continue with this kind of selfish thought, tribalism, nepotism, and favoritism Nigeria will keep going down till it becomes a fail state...
Innosson is not even the first-third out of all the automobile industry listed...

Innoson manufactures around 20000 per year.

Which school did you go to that puts 20k at 99% of 400000?

Yes, manufacture or assemble is not the problem, the question is how many can they really sell considering the fact that over 80 % of the population are low wages.

Unfortunately, govt's contribution to this is almost zero. This development, if it is true, is just the effort of private individuals. They sourced everything themselves and even power that should have been contributed by the govt is no where to be found.

Which government puts money into the auto industry?... the US? ... Japan?

@ topic .... countries through their policies are setting dates and regulations and incentives to phase out fossil fuel cars. What will the manufacturers do with their soon to be obsolete assembly plants? ... sell them as scrap iron?.... or shift them to a back to the future country and continue generating income? They found us and here we are celebrating... what next?...

What kind of capacity can there be without electricity and enabling infrastructure? Then there's the issue of high business taxes which is passed on to the cost of the vehicles. Finally, when these vehicles are pushed to the market, Nigerians still either do not fancy them or cannot afford them.

Anyways, we have to start from somewhere and hope that someday we'll have right thinking government in place to implement better policies that provide decent jobs and truly lift Nigerians above the poverty line.

Thank you jare.
Nigerians have been so impoverished less than 1% can buy brand new cars. Even heavily accidented tokumbo Nigerians barely can afford to buy. If you do not have at least 5m you cannot get a manageable car of less than 10 years and 100k miles!
The funny thing is that some folks here will buy 08 carry or benz and think they have arrived. Old junk cars oh.
Even financing cannot work, why? , a brand new hyundai sonata is ₦18.5m, elantra ₦13.5m, if a bank gives you a loan, you have to pay 20% down deposit, if you spread the balance over 4 years it means you pay ₦308,000.00 every month! This is aside bank interest of over 30%, insurance, hidden charges etc!
How many Nigerians can afford that Biko?

Nigeria that likes to exaggerate their achievements a lot, if we have the capacity to produce this much, then we should be exporting automobiles by now and lower our importation volume

how many steel industries are functioning in Nigeria? Where is Ajaokuta? Where is Aladja? Who is in charge of them?. Can there be a functioning auto industry without a functioning steel industry? Auto industry don't just come over night, a good govt has a very active role to play by providing infrastructure and good policies. The American govt rescued its auto industry during obama govt, even though it is a private industry, The economy has gone past 100percent free market "Adam smith" economy, now days, a good govt must do some things to ensure a smooth working economy. Where is electricity in Nigeria? Where are the good roads? What is our ports capacity and efficiency? What good policies has the govt created? Cosmos maduka was regretting investing in the auto industry some months back, today the govt is out making false political statements about the industry and u are opposing my statement, I'm not daft.
