2.Afghan war....a group of irregulars who don't observe rules of engagement, shoot from anywhere, and run to hide, and don't fight to defeat you, but to wear you out.

You have two options in this kind of war

1.Stay there for decades, and ruthlessly kill as many people as possible for every small attack on your troops. Exile large numbers of people, keep thousands in jail, forcibly educate and even in some cases convert people there to your religion and way of thinking, and only leave the country when you have finished. That's how the Romans ran Palestine from 66bc to 135 CE. And after Bar Kochba...the area was peaceful for centuries.

Unfortunately that means severe human rights abuse

2.Or you train up a group of people to continue the fight after you have gone. Good,.,,but the key problem is that many of these macs don't want to fight for the occupier, they just want to do it for the paycheck. Once that stops comming...they had over and go home.

Let me tell you the story about Libya crises..

Ghadafi was fed up with Usa interference in some Africa countries, he refused almost all the policy imposed by Usa to Libya which got Usa confused cos he was inspiring other African countries to do the same.

Ghadafi sent Haftar to a proxy war outside Libya, which Haftar was captured by American troops.. Haftar was in prison for so many years until he was ready to negotiate for his release. Haftar gave all the necessary info to get to Ghadafi as he used to be his right hand man but abandoned when arrested.

America entered Libya, kill Ghadafi, install their puppet as the leader of Libya.. Was it not same Haftar that went after the installed government in Libya?

NK is only a threat so long as the Chinese continue to back them....and the US does not want to fight a war with China who it has a lot of trade and investment relationships with.

Otherwise if it was a one on one war, the US would win. NK is not as advanced militarily as you think they are. The only way they can chase off the US is via irregular warfare.

Then there is the fact that South Korea does not want to pay for the rebuilding of NK up to South Korea's level. Yes, the Germany's reunified , but West spent over a trillion dollars over the next ten years to get the East up to its level, money many Wessis resent

Finally, a unified Korea may be a threat to China...because China has large indigenous korean populaiton in the North East, who may want to reunify with their brethren

I'm not so sure that we can say for certain that the US lost the war. To say that a country lost a war means that it did not achieve its objective.

America fears the madness of north Korea's dictator. Unlike US that wants to protect its citizens in the event of nuclear war, Kim would sacrifice his entire population just to destroy america. I think it is erroneous to think that the US went to Afghanistan to win a war. They went for opium and to let the military establishment off its old stocks. Both has been achieved. What did Afghans get in return destruction and stagnation.

You matter how you spin it Afghans are the real loser in this battle.
