After registering 28.1 million visitors in 2019, Toronto is positioned as the most visited city in Canada and the main tourist destination in the North American country.

This figure set a new record for the city, surpassing 27.5 million visits recorded in 2018.

The Indian market continues to experience significant growth in Toronto, after counting 85,000 visitors in 2019, representing a growth of 146% in 5 years.

China continues to lead Toronto’s largest foreign market with 222,000 visitors. Despite having decreased by 5.4% in 2019, visits from the Asian giant have increased by 24% in 5 years.

Toronto is recognized worldwide as one of the cities with the best quality of life in North America. Popular for its modern architecture, magnificent attractions, music, and events.

Montreal
By 2018, more than 19 million people arrived at Montréal-Trudeau airport, according to Tourisme Montréal. Overall, in 2018 Montreal registered a 1.9% increase in the number of visitors compared to the previous year.

This marks a growing trend in Montreal’s popularity, which places it as one of the most visited cities in Canada.

The city attracted 20% more visitors from the Philippines, 14% more from Germany, and 10% more from France than in the previous period.

Montreal is one of the most emblematic and historic cities in the whole country and is recognized worldwide for its European air and gastronomy.

Vancouver
More than 10.3 million people visited Vancouver in 2017, according to data from the Tourism Vancouver agency. This is an increase of 3% over 2016.

This record set a new record for the city for the fourth consecutive year, which places it as one of the most visited cities in Canada.

In this period, the highest number of visits was captured by Australians with 238,823 visitors, 20.4% compared to 2016. China was the second country with the highest rise, 7.1 percent more than the total of 2016 with 300,172 visitors.

Germany, with 15.4%, Mexico with 12.9%, and Japan with 5.2% also showed notable increases in the number of visits to “the green city.”

Year after year, the city receives thousands of tourists attracted by its integration of green areas into the urban landscape and its varied cultural offer.

2019 record year of visits in Canada
2019 has been a record year for Canadian tourism, registering 22.1 million arrivals, surpassing for the first time in history the 22 million previously counted.

Mexico experienced impressive growth with 495,627 total arrivals in 2019, of this number highlights a 12.4% increase in air visits.

Visas and residence permits issued by Canada
More than 341,000 permanent residents were welcomed by Canada in 2019. More than 402,000 study permits and 404,000 temporary work permits were also issued, according to the migration report of the Canadian parliament.

On the other hand, in 2018 the country issued more than 6 million eTA visas and electronic travel authorizations to visitors, international students, and temporary workers, which is an increase of more than 5% over the previous year.

An increase is linked to the ease of obtaining eTA travel authorization online.
