A whistleblower, who exposed alleged fraud at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron in Akwa Ibom State, Adamu Jibrin, has been sacked.

SaharaReporters gathered that Jibrin’s appointment was terminated on February 17, 2021, to cover up the nefarious activities of the Rector of the institution, Emmanuel Effuade.

“He was sacked by the board of the institution. The Rector is also sponsoring the media to castigate Jibrin as a blackmailer. He is as well ignoring EFCC call to defend the petition against (him).

“On a phone call with Jibrin on 23rd, August 2021, he expressed concern about his life and possible attack on him by agent of the Rector, saying that he told the EFCC Zonal representative that he is ready to defend his petition at EFCC headquarters in Abuja and not in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State,”
a source told SaharaReporters.

Jibrin had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) to investigate and prosecute the management of the institution over multiple fraud, as well as systemic and perennial corruption.

In a two-page petition through his lawyer, Michael Edet and Associates and titled, “Petition of Fraud, Embezzlement, Misappropriation and Criminal Conversion of Public Funds to Personal Use by the Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron,” he alleged that millions of naira have been siphoned from the treasury of the academy.

In its 18 paragraphs, the petition said inter Alia: “…about a year after assumption of Commodore Duja Emmanuel Effedua (Rtd), as Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, in 2018, there was a fraudulent scheme put in place by the office of the Rector, Bursar, Head of Procurement and Cashier to siphon public funds using me (Mr. Adamu Jibrin) and other willing staffers of the academy in the scheme.

“That the above dubious practice involved payment of monies into selected staff accounts and asking the said staff to retain a little fraction or small part of the sum, and thereafter asked to return the bulk sum to the Finance/Bursary Department through some select staff via cash, including Onnoyom Etebong (Cashier), Ezike Nkemdiri Anthony, Clement Ukoyonoh, Patrick Boco Archiving and Egwu Divine and several other staffers.

“That on October 23, 2018, the amount of N1,406,000.00 was paid into my account under the fraudulent scheme and on the same date I was made to withdraw the sum of N1,305,000.00 and give it to Mr. Onoyom Etebong, the Cashier for onward remittance to the Bursar, Acting Registrar, Rector and some other members of the cartel of the management team of the academy.”

The petitioner explained that money of various amounts were transmitted through a personal account they asked him to open at United Bank for Africa (UBA), Oron Branch, with No.: 2115867327 till September 2020, when he met with the Academy cashier, Mr. Onoyom Etebong, for financial assistance to pay the medical bills of his mother and the cashier referred him to other members of the syndicate.

According to him, “I protested to Mr Onoyom that after using my account to divert over N62m between 2018 and 2020 that it was unfair for management and the cartel not to assist him in time of needs.”

The petitioner called on the EFCC and the office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to investigate, invite and prosecute the persons closely or remotely involved in the brazen and large-scale corruption and embezzlement of funds in the Academy, Oron from 2018 till date.

I remember when one senior man been dey gist us then say e better make him be VC or rector or head of any tertiary public institution for Nigeria rather than make him be governor..

I stil don't get the point for the introduction of remita if these people heading our tertiary institutions can still beat the scheme and do what they know how to do best..

When you fight corruption....
This great man (Ribadu) and woman (Iweala) below have said it all.....
God Save Nigeria.

Before that, this reminds us of one of our previous post below,
Corruption and dishonesty in every sphere of the country, especially among the citizens.
It's an eyesore mehn!

THE HOME TRUTH!
If the truth wanna kill some people, let them die....
We will continue to say the truth just as it is

I run a manufacturing business and a trading business.
The biggest challenge in my manufacturing business is not power, or infrastructure, the biggest challenge is getting honest staff.
Everyone we hire appears to be on a mission to steal as much as possible.
Inflated invoices, recording less than the actual number of units produced.
The worst part of it all is that all the fraud we've uncovered is not done by a single person, it's usually many staff who collude with each other, from production, to sales, to finance, even top management.
There was a year I overhauled management 3 times in a year.........

But me, I've found a solution sha,
I now use Indian management.
So competent, so honest and so straightforward.
I thought they were expensive at first with all the visa fees, accommodation, house staff, but now that losses due to staff theft have been reduced to a minimum, and efficiency increased, the Indian management has turned out to be cheaper than the previous Nigerian management.
Now, all sensitive positions involving money go to Indians.
Nigerians are only allowed in non-sensitive positions.
I used to criticize companies like Dangote Group that hire so many Indians when there are many unemployed Nigerians, but now, I understand their decision.

My biggest challenge in the trading business is the same, getting honest staff.
The form of trading occurs in the open market, and involves staff having access to huge sums of money running into a few millions.
I know how much I pay to security companies to provide escorts for the staff, not to prevent robbery, but to ensure that the staff go straight to the bank to deposit the money after the day's sales and not disappear with my money.
This money spent on security companies is even enough to be declared as profit.
We have to spend on CCTV, biometric scanners and other things that wouldn't be needed if staff weren't looking for the slightest opportunity to steal.

It got so bad at a point that my main criteria for employing staff was no longer competency but honesty.
At least, competency and skills can be learnt, but once you're dishonest, you're dishonest.

We always complain of the economy and how there are no jobs.
I know people abroad who would have loved to set up job creating businesses in Nigeria but they can't because they can't get any trustworthy person to run it.

I know people in Nigeria with so much money, they want to start factories and other job-creating businesses but they can't because they are occupied elsewhere and can't get any trustworthy person to run the business.
So instead of investing in the real sector and creating jobs, they'll just buy treasury bills, while the thieves are shouting no jobs.

Many big businesses would have been born in Nigeria if we could engage in partnerships, but we cant because you can't trust anyone.
This is one advantage the Indians and Lebanese have over us in Nigeria.
They can pull resources together and do mega-business, unlike Nigerians that because only one person must do everything since we can't partner, end up with small, tiny businesses.

Start a poultry and they will be stealing your eggs. Some will even go ahead to be killing the chickens so that they'll be allowed to take them home.

Start an entertainment/viewing/game center and they'll be pocketing your money.
On the days you're around at the business, the money realized will be x10 of the money realized when you're not around..... Because they're eating your money.

Lease out a vehicle to a driver to use and watch as he'll finish you.

Start a restaurant, the same thing will happen. More than half of the total food ingredients will end up in their personal kitchens.

Even ordinary provisions shop, they will find a way to steal.

You'll see them with that their evil, wicked saying "na where person dey work, na there e dey chop, na e make dem dey callam workchop/workshop"...... Just imagine, justifying theft at work.

And you'll see these people point their crooked fingers at politicians when they're not any different.
I usually say the reason most Nigerians haven't stolen billions of government money, is simply lack of opportunity.

*On every level, Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria*

TechNana:

You nailed this so much I feel I could like this over a hundred times...

Thank you for this response...
You are always welcome.
We will continue to be on the side of the truth as long as we exist.
Stay blessed ma.
NaijaCopy:

Quite sad but the honest, unedited truth. The average Nigerian has a moral crisis - although they're the most religious and most of them are ushers, choristers and alfas on Sundays and Fridays. Supporters of evil and dubious wealth. they're plenty on Nairaland - Hailing Hushpuppi without questioning his showoffs. Everyone is looking for an opportunity to defraud his neighbour, friend, colleague, bosses, even brothers and sisters and thinking the 'benefits' will last. To fix unemployment in this country, we'll need to first fix our moral compass as a nation.
You've said it all bro!

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain

Jail rector for what ? On the strength of an allegation by a staff ? Do you know what may have motivated the staff ? Didnt you read where the rector said the staff was blackmailing him ? EFCC or the police should get legal warrants and proceed to do their work rather than sitting down in the office and be summoning people

He should not only be sacked, he should be assassinated as well, how can a northerner expose the rector when a southerner can't do that in the north and go free. He is mad. Is it his corruption? Why hasn't he blown his whistle in malami and his northern cohorts that have been embezzling this nation dry? We southerners keep on punishing our pple over corruption while the northerners hide theirs, till today we've not heard about abba kyari again. Awon olofo.

Let the man loot and embezzle after all he didn't start it.
