Op makes a very cogent point. Most Nigerians won't be able to afford university education. Education is highly subsidized in Nigeria

He is also inadvertently arguing that everyone should earn bad salaries too.

And arguing against freedom of movement and the right to earn extra money for everyone

What's good for the goose...

Fulani bandits have invaded this thread! I know for sure that Nigerians would forever live to regret what the online warriors have caused this great nation!

He may be, but he does make a good point about doctors leaving Nigeria and the bad impact it could have on health care at home.

The problem is he does not suggest ways of improving work conditions at home so that doctors can stay and work at home.

Federal Government should stop subsidized education. The other countries are reaping where they did not sow.

Generally speaking I agree. Subsidised education is one big reason why we dont have well equipped universities. Allow universities to charge proper fees and cover funding gaps with loans and scholarships and grants OR raise taxes.

The problem is most Nigerians won't be able to go to university to better their lives.

I know one guy who enrolled in university with just 2000 naira to his name for the year after paying fees of 20000 naira then. If not for subsidised fees he won't have been able to go to university at all. Now he graduated , got a good job post NYSC, married and has his own house and car. If fees were 3million naira per annum he probably would still be a school cert holder

I feel relieved now cheesy . Yesterday I called out the FG for allowing Saudi Arabia slap Nigeria in the face with the brazen, unauthorized & disrespectful recruitment of our trained medical professionals right in our country.

In the midst of the Covid pandemic, Avian flu outbreak, Tuberculosis and Cholera outbreaks in Nigeria, it would be stupid to allow the mass emigration of our doctors and consultants. Even without the outbreaks, no sensible nation would allow the mass emigration of its professionals in any field. Each of those doctors is worth 8 years of university trainning ( + housemanship + nysc). The freshest graduate doctor is 8 years of university education. "Subsidized education". Some experienced ones have at least 3 years work experience making a total of 11 years of skills. Some consultants would have amassed 20 years of skills. Yet many dummies think we should lose such people. If we allow them go, who would treat our mothers, fathers, and siblings when they get sick? Who would do operations on our babies, children and security personnel who are fighting insecurity?

The problem with Nigeria is Nigerians. We are too greedy as a people. This include the highs and low of the society. But within that greed, we shouldn't be stupid as a nation. Life isn't all about money.

Nigerian Doctors got subsidized education in federal and state universities. Even in private universities, their medical students train in the federal & state teaching hospitals, hence still fairly subsidized. The true cost of studying medicine is unaffordable to even the middle class. Trainee doctors learn with the dead bodies of Nigerians provided by the police, prisons, etc. Can students afford dead bodies? How many can you buy to learn for 6 years? You pay N40,000 per year to study medicine and when you graduate you want to run to Saudi Arabia. undecided

Why didn't you pay to study medicine in Saudi Arabia? Or England or America? Yes, go and pay to study medicine in those countries. But if you are trained by Nigerian govt for free, you should serve the nation for a reasonable length of time before moving out, if necessary.

If it takes Nigeria 8 years minimum to train a doctor, why should we lose even 1 doctor to another country. These countries don't employ Nigerian engineers or technicians, only our doctors and consultants, who were trained for free with Nigerian blood.

Greedy Nigerian doctors. The FG and NA must now enact laws to discourage emigration of doctors. Any doctor that travels must pay a monthly fee back home or cannot practise in Nigeria upon return. Or undergraduate doctors should sign a bond that they would repay trainning fees should they emigrate. Nonsense cheesy. In fact, I wish I was a minister kiss i would have scattered the interview long ago tongue
Thunder fire you slowpoke, we will leave through other means.

If you ask the Op, he'll tell you how doctors should be grazing cows for survival and how doctors should start farming if they cannot find jobs undecided

Granted that most of these Medical Doctors enjoyed heavily subsidized training by the government of Nigeria and morally they should give back to the society.

However is not in this same country that the minister said Nigeria has more than enough Doctors? Why then be worried that some people want to japa?
In Nigeria we are steal N40000 as School in most of the university, no university in SA you will pay less N6000000, FG should make people heavily for education in Nigeria, if anybody want to go anywhere let him go...
