COVID-19: MC Edo Pikin Condemns Governor Obaseki's New Restriction Order by foicounselng: 2:39pm On Aug 27, 2021

Background: The Edo state government imposed restriction on mass gatherings without evidence of covid19 vaccination; According to the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, “Beginning from the second week of September 2021, large gatherings, as well as high traffic public and private places will only be accessed by persons who have proof of taking at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination. People who have not yet been vaccinated at all will depend on remote access to these gatherings. “From the second week of September people may not be allowed to worship in churches and mosques without showing proof of their vaccination cards at the gates. Similarly, people will not be allowed to event centers, receptions or parties, without showing proof of their vaccination cards.” The consequence is that people may not be allowed to worship in churches and mosques without showing proof of their vaccination cards at the gates. This infringes on the right to freedom of thought and dignity. The vaccine is not a full proof of covid19. Some religion or free thought of life do not permit vaccination or compulsory medication.

Furthermore, the population of Edo State is over 4.7 Million. In the first phase of the vaccination Edo State received 81, 080 doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine which represents 1.7 percent of the population. In the ongoing 2nd phase of the vaccination, the state government has acknowledged the receipt of 76, 712 doses of vaccines which translate to 1.7 percent of the population. We therefore have less than 5 percent with one dose of the vaccine or 2 percent with the two dose of the vaccination. FOI COUNSEL has therefore, been contacted by stakeholders in Edo State to commence a legal action against the Edo State Government pro bono.

shocked

While I'm truly concerned about the rate of new cases even among close friends of mine, I think the Governor goofed on this one. The issue of health and choice of treatment remains a matter of personal decision.

Having said that, the Governor has no right to mandate people to take vaccines they find objectionable...

Government can only encourage but not force people to take it the jabs.
