poiZon: Even if we shuffle them, the lure of filthy lucre is going to tempt and tempt more and more people. Lord knows i did not like GEJ. But when it came to subsidy removal he was on the right track. Not only do we save money, but all them dormant licences would be take up. Because it would now be profitable to refine fuel in Nigeria. |

Imagine in july dpr said nigeria consumed 150million litre of fuel a day compare to 30million we normally consumed during GEJ era. That is a whooping 120million litres difference. Calculate the subsidy involved in these 120million litre then u will know Nigeria is being looted blue, black and peach by buhari and his cabal. Instead of finding lasting solutions to these perennial smuggling, they r giving excuses and apportioning blames. Employ more hands if need be to secure the borders, checkmate every illegal routes these guys use. Its simple... 1 Like |

Emu4life: The subsidy is pushing us into more and more debt. Because the money cones from the limited amounts we earn from crude which is falling in price. And subsidy makes it unprofitable to refine fuel at home. Unless you are as rich as Dangote |

HIGHESTPOPORI: So how are Niger , Chad, Cameroon, Benin, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ghana etc who 're all just as poor as we are surviving with petrol prices above 300 naira per liter? How much more millions of naira are we going to spend subsidising fuel for other African countries? Who give us nothing in return? |
Re: Why Petrol Smuggling Continues - Mele Kyari by Dmeji4444(m): 9:45am On Sep 03, 2021 |
Then the govt should remove the subsidy totally and transfer the savings to subsidise electricity |

I love the way people have kept mum over the issue of fuel price hike. Buhari and his goons are dead scared of people's reaction. You know, Buhari hasn't seen Nigerians anger since he took power except for the little sample of Endsars. I pray daily that Buhari should increase fuel price. God help him. I pray he lives to tell the story. 1 Like |

Or how about poultry products? Bros there is ni excuse, the issue is the security men r involved in these smuggling. Modrov:Subsidy removal now will make the little efforts being made (if at all there is any) in our economy to collapse. Everything revolve around fuel, transporters use it, almost all small and medium scale enterprises use it to power their facilities. At the moment exchange rate is going exponentially crazy, n fuel is being priced in dollars, we might end up buying fuel at 350naira a litre. Prices of goods n services wil skyrock, minimum wage is still 18k or less in some states, so many people r not even enjoying this minimum wage, so many unemployed youths out there, some firms may even downsize to cut cost... So at end u will see trying to solve a problem, u compound it. |
Re: Why Petrol Smuggling Continues - Mele Kyari by Nobody: 9:57am On Sep 03, 2021 |
poiZon: Even if you do that, it won't stop the smuggling. The cheap way is to remove subsidy. It would encourage more investment in refining, which means more jobs, more production and price of fuel falls. And we end up exporting the thing. Nigeria's neighbour Niger has o subsidy. As a result they make enough to keep their one refinery working, and export to at least 3 countries |
Re: Why Petrol Smuggling Continues - Mele Kyari by Tianamen1: 9:58am On Sep 03, 2021 |
MODROV, I believe you are the same character I told that the issue of fuel price increases in Nigeria is tied to the decreasing value of the naira, so to solve this issue, taxes would have to be raised on cars and houses and that the more progressive these taxes are, the better. Nigerians are amongst the most flamboyant people on earth, and if as a society, we do not change our ways, the death of this nation is a certainty. To solve this crisis, the government should raise taxes on the rich, and invest in quality basic education and build new prisons for likely tax evaders. as the naira gains value, the price of petrol would naturally go lower. |

Greed and unbridled corruption are the bane of the Nigerian society. We are a dangerously selfish people who careless about others provided our nests are feathered. Yet, we pride ourselves as the world's most religious people. What an irony! Once money is involved, we quickly relegate religion to the background. No wonder the Holy Book says by their fruits we shall know them. No one truly loves or cares about Nigeria! FACT! We are wicked to ourselves! |
Re: Why Petrol Smuggling Continues - Mele Kyari by poiZon: 10:01am On Sep 03, 2021 |
Modrov:Even if there r 2million refineries in Nigeria, price of fuel will and can never fall below what is obtainable in foreign countries. HIGHESTPOPORI: Below is a map of access to power in several African countries Apart from Ghana, who pay twice as much as we do for power, they all havr lower access. What those countries do is concentrate what little power they have on a few areas. We don't do that.

Modrov: *It has been proposed that no fuel station 50 kilometers away from the borders... * Only NNPC station is allowed within the range since the population around the border is less dense. * Border patrol / Custom sabotage should be checked It will not totally stop it but drastically will reduce it. You need to see the numbers of ⛽ stations along the road to the borders...it will shock you * |

palsenator: Even then, the temptation and incentive is still there. I mean someone buys 10 liters of fuel at N1630 and sell it at Niger at 3770. Capitalism has always been about the money. Make it difficult to earn money, they will do it illicitly |
