But the sewage will still be passed Into the "Street Drainages" This stuff Is used by many household In Lekki. They mostly flush out the Feaces at Night and the Feaces stinks to High Heaven. I use to wonder what kind of smell Is this not until I did my own research and later discovered It In one of my friends house.....

hi, is this true?

A biodigester's flush water is supposed to empty into a soakaway pit (not septic pit) where it drains into the ground.

A lot of houses on the island have almost the same challenge where the builders cannot properly dig a normal septic tank because of the swampy or waterlogged terrain.

So they precast the septic tank and try to sink it by digging around it while it gradually goes into the ground.

The precast septic is different from the regular types you know because it doesn't have holes by the sides of the wall so it's completely covered.

The plan is that, the waste water (toilet flush water, kitchen and bathroom waste water) in these septic tanks will be pumped out occasionally to the public drainage.
This is a serious concern for lands bought in these location.

If the streets don't have a good drainage system, it means the water will not flow to anywhere especially when the waste water in the soakaway is pumped out when it rains, with a mindset that it will flow along with the rain water.

When you have the same action performed by most of, if not all of the houses on the street, that is when you perceive bad odour from these area.

The idea of constructing this type of septic tank is because it's impossible to dig deep like about 5ft without seeing water coming out.

This particular kind of case can only be experienced in the area you mentioned. Every other area where the biodigester is constructed doesn't have this problem.

Your concerns/questions about the biodigester being the cause of the foul smell is not true.
The biodigester is constructed in a way that it doesn't retain waste water. It only collects toilet waste/flush water and decomposes the poo while the water flows out to the soakaway.

This where the problem now comes up;
Since the soakaway which has nothing to do with the digester is having a bad time trying to absorb water due to the precast and terrain, the water will get full inside, and having nowhere else to go, the option will be to pump it out.

My answer to this question is that the biodigester is not the cause of the smell on that street.

The proper solution is for the evacuation trucks to come regularly to empty the water in the soakaway since there's no flowing drainage in that neighbourhood.

I hope the above article answers your question.

This is a rocky site location somewhere in Ibadan, with difficulty in digging to construct a soakaway system for the property.
After 2 unsuccessful attempts, the diggers had to stop digging due to the hard rock discovered in the ground.

The client was adviced to install a biodigester sewage system and luckily for him, that's the best solution to the problem.

Please reach us if you have similar issue at your site. We do believe that there'll be a solution for you.
