Rain has caused a total havoc to a newly constructed road in a community in Enugu State.

A viral photo shared online by social media users showed how rain washed off a culvert which was constructed to send stormy water across to the other side of the road thereby, cutting off the road.

According to report, the Neke/Mbu/Ogbodu-Abba/Obollo-Etiti World Bank road is only 6 months old before being washed off by the rain yesterday.

Reacting to the the viral photos, the Enugu State Government in a press release said its has directed the state ministry of works to invite Nigerian Society of Engineers, others for urgent remedial actions.

The state government who said they're resolute in holding all agencies, contractors and partners accountable for works done in the state blamed blockage of culvert by heavy debris by nearby forest for the cause of the road failure.

The statement read...

"The Enugu State Government has reacted to the unfortunate culvert failure at drainage 3+120 along Neke/Mbu/Ogbodu-Abba/Obollo-Etiti road, a World Bank project executed under the Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP II), revealing that preliminary reports point to a blockage of the culvert inlet by heavy debris comprising logs and other materials from a nearby forest as a result of unprecedented and intensive rainfall that caused flooding and erosion in the ravaged section.

"A statement issued yesterday by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, disclosed that the state government has consequently directed the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to urgently invite the Nigerian Society of Engineers to investigate and determine the remote causes of the damage and advise on necessary remedial measures to be carried out immediately.

"Aroh disclosed that the state government had earlier set up a technical committee to assess, among other things, the structural quality and integrity of all RAMP II projects executed in Enugu State, adding that directive has also be given for “immediate installation of warning signs to alert motorists in advance of the closure of the portion of the road, and placement of diversion signs to alternative routes”.

"The Information Commissioner therefore assured the general public of the state government’s commitment to the provision of standard infrastructure in Enugu State, as well as its resolve to hold all agencies, contractors and partners accountable for all works done in the state.

The bridge suppose to be higher than this so that enough space will be available for the river. Look at quantity of the soil material on the slab,it is too much nao.

See how a road looks like birthday cake with icing sugar.

These governors are really stupid people. Now you'll have to spend twice the necessary amount needed if you had done this work well.

The sad thing about this is that the God forsaken lunatics from this region will still vote the bastard that constructed this rubbish at humongous amount while they insult Sanwolu who is delivering quality project biweekly.

This is what happens when you don't profile a road and design culverts to specs. Congratulations to both ministry of works and the contractor.

U mean Igbos residing and doing business in Lagos having their say in Lagos Politics ? I don't understand because an average SouthEasterner in the East doesn't care or has never said anything concerning Tinubu's political demigod status in SouthWest. Please choose your words rightly.

Ugwuanyi, stop making excuses for failure!

Didn't the contractors see the forest before construction

I like the fact that you asked for remedial ASAP! You are more concerned about your public image! This grave mistakes claims human lives!

The contractors should be dealt with! They shouldn't delve into something they know nothing about!
