1)When dealing with people, always have a written agreement stating all terms and conditions. Don’t assume the person you’re dealing with is trustworthy, Most people in Nigeria are not trustworthy. 2) Don’t deal with someone you can’t take up or win physically incase he defaults, rate the influence of the person you’re buying something from or partnering with and be sure he’s someone you can easily deal with incsse he defaults. a) i was scammed through a project deal in imo state in Imo state and I discovered the whole local government was into it, I couldn’t do anything because they were well connected. b) I bought something from someone powerful and he defaulted, it was hard to hold him accountable because he had influence everywhere and a single phone call was getting him out, i ended up begging daily (still begging him) Be sure he’s someone you can deal with incase he defaults. 3)Don’t pay for what you see online with the hope that they will deliver, if you want to buy something you see online, take the pain to go down there physically, pay and go away immediately with what you’re paying for. I sat down to check most pains i’ve had and I discovered it was mainly from the deals i had online, from them defaulting on delivery to them delivering inferior materials. 4) know what you want (quality) and stand by it, if it’s not up to the agreed standard, be firm and reject such work. 5)NEVER PAY IN FULL FOR A JOB NOT DONE! 20% for mobilization, 30% when the job is in progress, balance when the job has been done. 6) Before giving a job, ask for proofs from the artisans from previous jobs done. somehow:There will always be those who are foolish enough to sign deals that do not favour them on the long run. Even if we kill one each day, those who make such unfavourable deals won't notice because more will sign it. |

somehow:You're completely correct but if you need to soar high in business you must look out for loopholes or blindspots in the other party and use it to your advantage. Business is war. Just like politics and physical combat. Like you said, never expose yourself to exploitation. Very important. You cannot be tryna recoup when you're supposed to be doubling profit and re-strategizing. |

JimmyDarmody: Loopholes should not be your primary concern in a long term business deal. A healthy business deal should be mutually beneficial. When one party tries to box the other party into a corner, tension is created giving room to atrocities (harm and even death). Not worth it. |

somehow:There are people who perform better in a tensed environment. The goal is not to box into a corner but to maximize profit per unit time. A business deal must appear to be mutually beneficial. This image must be held to the latter even though it is not true sometimes. |

Born2conquer:It has been said that there is no successful Lawyer, business man or politician who is completely honest. In these lines of work, no one will mention it to your hearing but deception and the ability to see deception is key. It doesn't mean you cannot loose but it does put you at the more advantageous position. |

JimmyDarmody:Strange mentality Nigerians carry around in their head, and they don't know it's twisted. The origin of business is barter where you give what I need for what you need/want, very natural. Both parties win, are happy, and are eager to deal at a later date. Dr Covey's Habit 4: Think win-win emphasised this notion. The premise is that the universe is an abundant place for every man that puts in his fair share. Frankly, it is unfortunate but sadly common in this country for people to assume that you must exploit others to succeed in business, it is indeed a false notion that breeds animosity in the society on the long run. Top 10 companies globally, I'm sure they provide beneficial goods or services to most of the people at a fair cost. 3 Likes |
