I differ with you on why Akinwunmi and Okonjo-Iweala shouldn't be considered. After all, both of them have functioned well as ministers in the 'toxic' system. They were born, bread, and buttered here, not overseas. If your house is burning, you bring in the best fire fighters. You don't say, "oh, the situation is too toxic for the best hands". These two are even the ones who understand international economics and have the relevant connections to connect Nigeria to the world.
They were appointees of Govt who were very well protected by their bosses. They showed most times they weren't comfortable with the system.

NOI resigned when she was moved to the Foreign Affairs Ministry under OBJ, Adesina was practically urged by GEJ to continue.

Those who endorse candidates don't endorse intelligent people. Politics isn't International.....it is local.

Stop wasting your time on Nigeria. It's irredeemable. If you are made President of Nigeria today where will you start from? How will you change the legislative and judiciary? How will you hijack things from the likes of Tinubu, Sultan and the Obas and all the cabals at all the different levels of government? How will you find Nigerians who are currently not in politics who have a heart to fix Nigeria under this faulty constitution that we run? Abeg forget Nigeria let's talk about something else.

HelloWriter:
With the current stance of the Southern Governors' Forum on who should succeed the present Nigerian President, a brand new political climate has been ushered in. The Forum's position is that the next Nigerian President MUST come from the South.

From my past observation of the Northern politicians, this is how I expect they are going to respond to this position of the Southern governors:

1. Using the money made from Southern oil fields, they will try to buy over the Southern governors. They will not like to go far with a confrontational approach because this can easily lead the Southern governors to go secessionist, possibly pushing for a Republic of Southern Nigeria. Of course, that is the last thing the North ever wants.

2. If they fail to buy over a good number of the Southern governors, they will support one of them (or some other Southern politician) who dances to the Northern tune to succeed the current President. In that case, fellows like Hope Uzodinma, Bola Tinubu, Kayode Fayemi, and Rochas Okorocha will feature prominently. The problem is that, with any of such candidates, the interests of the North may even be better represented than those of the South.

After all, what the Southern governors asked for is only for a Southerner to succeed the current President. As Governor Akeredolu put it bluntly recently...

But, I tell you my people that, if we're to accept that bolded part out of desperation, we are going to regret it as many of us are now regretting to have supported a Buhari Presidency. No, we shouldn't want just ANY Southerner to represent the South this time.

SOUTHERN YOUTHS ARISE!!!

Thus, after the Southern governors have said their minds on the issue, the people should say their minds too. Otherwise, we'd soon be going through another 8-year cycle of suffering-and-complaining.

Are we ready for that? Surely no. Therefore, let the position of the Nairaland community on this issue be made known through individual viewpoints here. We Nigerian youths (especially from the South) should stop being politically lazy. Instead, we should be politically up and doing. We should be making our political position clear. We should also be participating in the political process.

So, who is that Southern Nigerian YOU personally want to succeed President Buhari and why?

Please edit that they shouldn't be under any of these two parties: Apc and Pdp. Please.

They won't let them work

Osinbajo is the real deal. What he did during his acting days alone is a convincing enough for Nigerians to make him the President.

If he is under Apc and pdp, he won't work o.

These parties will not make him work efficiently

The Best thing for this country is to split, abolish the current constitution and make a new people's constitution, or the least go into regional government with every state or regional controlling their resources and emitting some percentage to the government.

Nevertheless, if the country should go into regional government or true fiscal federalism where state controls their resources, the president I would love to succeed the present one are any of the one listed:

(1) Fermi Adesina ( of the AFDB)

(2) Okonji Iweala

(3) Yemi Osinbanjo

(4) Ogbonnian of Abia state

**** thanks OP for this post, we appreciate you ******

**** Okowa of Delta state is a very corrupt politician, as you can see, the person who mentioned him has no cogent reason for mentioning him. I am a Deltan, and I can tell you that man has nothing to offer *****

***** Any potential president with conscience and competence should also bear in mind to assemble a team with like minds and zeal like his/hers otherwise he/she will and cannot not do anything positive to move this country forward *****
