INEC Temporarily Suspends Online Continuous Voter Registration In Lagos by Parizz: 6:22am On Sep 21, 2021
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that it will temporarily suspend the online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) application process in Lagos to give room for all registrants to check for appropriateness or otherwise of their information supplied during the registration.

This was disclosed in a statement by INEC on Monday, in Lagos, in a bid to evaluate the process so far in the state.

INEC added that the process, which also involves biometric registration would be suspended from Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

“The exercise, based on the approved timelines and schedule, will start on September 24 and end on September 30 2021,” INEC said.

“The temporary CVR stoppage is to give room for all registrants to check for appropriateness or otherwise of their information supplied during the registration.

“The 7-day long activities are also to raise objections (if any) about names that are not supposed to be on the register, like names of dead persons, foreigners and Nigerians below the age of 18.

“The Commission will also use the period for other necessary housekeeping (backend) activities in preparation for the next quarter,”
they added.

INEC stated that the names of all approved registrants will also be displayed publicly at the local government INEC offices in all the 20 Local Government Areas of Lagos state, urging the support of the masses with information gathering.

What you should know

Recall Nairametrics reported earlier this month that The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that the introduction of the INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) will eliminate acts of fraud with Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), making Nigeria’s electoral process more efficient.

INEC revealed the IVED system will be the new voter verification device, adding that despite the ongoing voter registration process, the commission is working round the clock to improve service delivery and credible voter accreditation during elections in Nigeria.

Trying to block the vote, everyone should watch well and those who have already registered should do whatever it takes to stop this evil administration from resurfacing.

So what exactly does this voter registration mean? Is INEC trying to say those who registered before and have collected their PVC should go and register again, just so they can get the IVEC? Or what exactly

Please let them be clear about this...

More people coming out to register this time around was a shock to them...... They never expect the turn up so they took the break either to waste time or deny some persons under some conditions not met properly

After the online registration, what is the next action to be taken to complete the process?

Any idea about this?

Thanks!

One thing is to register, another is to come out and vote.

Many are coming out to register because they need a valid means of identification, because other valid means of identification will cost them money, nothing more, nothing less.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, temporarily suspend the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) which resumed three months ago.

The agency launched an online portal on June 28 for Nigerians to commence the registration process ahead of a full physical registration exercise which commenced on July 26.

Spokesperson, Festus Okoye, said in a statement on Monday, September 20 that a total of 1,081,947 have completed registration for their permanent voter card (PVC).

More than 70% of them are youths between the ages of 18 and 34, and 41% are students, according to INEC's figures.

"On gender distribution, 555,872 (51.38%) are male and 526,075 (48.62%) are female," he said," Okoye said.

As of Monday, a total of 3,165,189 have pre-registered online since June, with 1,457,766 of them submitting applications for voter transfer, replacement of PVCs and update of their voter information records.

INEC will suspend the exercise from Tuesday and start displaying the register of new voters in compliance with the Electoral Act 2010.

The register will be displayed at INEC's local government offices nationwide for public scrutiny, allowing citizens to make claims and objections.

"The aim is to enable citizens assist the Commission by identifying ineligible registrants on the list ahead of the cleaning up of the register before adding the fresh registrants to the current register and the printing of their Permanent Voters' Cards (PVCs) for future election," Okoye said.

The CVR will recommence on October 4.
