Just got confirmation that Igbere is run by a semi-illiterate.
Average salary for a government worker then was about ₦100/per month.
Average salary today is about ₦80k per month.
It costs about ₦500k-₦1million today to rent same equivalent status venue for a day.
Thus, takes same 5-8months salary for both time periods to rent same venue for the average government worker.
So still same thing, just different time periods and currency values.

It's that sort of illiterate post by IgbereTv that would make some people feel that truly Nigeria is a confirmed country of dullards to have allowed someone like Buhari to not just win an election but get re-elected by supposed adults.

Very expensive. In 1982 a brand new Bettle or 504 is about ₦2000. What it out.

Even at that, electing Buhari is a show of dumbness. Naira is 575 to one dollar today because Buhari is a very bad president.

To think they’ll still deduct pension contribution of some sort from that amount to plan his retirement in say 30 years time (2012)

Omo mehn, the system is designed to ensure one is poor when he or she is old and weak.

Pension fund has low purchasing power at the time of retirement given how naira is nosediving in value.

Sometimes I wish I could go back in times, so I could afford things I can't possibly get in This present day.
Maybe travel way back into the 70s or 80s with just 100k in my back pocket.

That sum is a large one so I need to engage a truck load of police to provide a security of some sort. But then the 70s was relatively peaceful. There's absolutely nothing to fear even kidnappers. I'd save my money.

I'd move around lagos, especially the high brows places and fuccking buy up all the Lands.
I'd wait for Bill gates to establish Microsoft then massively invest. I know quite well that Mr Bill would awestruck but that's fine.

I'd search for Jeff Bezoz, that Amazon guy and current richest man and make myself know to him. We'd talk about how to build a business empire known as AMAZON!

And finally, the crux of the matter. I'd go on to register myself in Harvard University, and particularly make sure that I am around and not flexing around with the girls when MARK Zuckerberg would make that glorious call.
"Come lets create Facebook" wink

I think OP just wants us to know how things were then in 1982. Our N500 exchanged at 50 kobo too easy dollar.

Times have changed all over the world. The whole world has experienced changes in the costs of goods and services in these 39 years, including the USA.

For us here events have overtaken a lot of things. Civilization has advanced. We do not drive the same cars driven in 1982. We do not wear the same clothes. Design of houses changed, technology has advanced, etc.

The best is to convert that to dollar as at that time and step it down to dollar as of today. That will give you the idea.

So, that 500 is like 192,478 Naira now.
