What is the worth of your life? By Apostle Azemobor Gregory

Albert Einstein succinctly captured the essence of life when he stated that “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile”.
This aphorism needs to be re-echoed to a world that is precariously lost to the pursuit of egocentricity and self-aggrandizement; a world that is ravaged by the canker worm of greed and wicked self-interest. But be that as it may; let me begin this piece by giving a perspective definition of what the notion ‘worth’ is all about
The concept of ‘worth’ connotes the intrinsic value that a thing possesses and value speaks of the usefulness of one thing for another.
In other words, the value of anything is the benefit it coffers on others.

Drawing a corollary from this definition, one can posit that value is not self-serving. Its importance is measured by utility derived from it.

Now in paraphrasing the topic under discussion,
How much benefits do others derived from your life?
What utility does your life coffer on people around you?
Apart from you and your close family members, how many people have you torched positively with your life?
How many less privilege persons have you helped altruistically, knowing that they cannot repay your benevolence?
If you cannot provide answer to these questions in the affirmative, then you need a sincere re-appraisal of the worth of your life.

When God created you, He sent you to planet earth for a purpose. Your life is not an accident; you are not a happenstance. You have a specific assignment to fulfill here on earth and that is why you are here. It is also imperative to emphasize that your purpose or your earthly assignment is predicated on the value and utility that your life coffer on others.

Simply put, what you do to enhance the life of other people is the true worth of your life, but the ironic tragedy of our mortal existence is that majority of us walking through this terrestrial space, do not have the remotest idea about the purpose for our lives, and the need to serve others and live for the overall good of the society.

Together we can make the world a better place to live in.
