Group demands immediate arrest and prosecution of Sokoto Commissioner, Garba Moyi.



Sokoto Coalition of Civil Society Groups has demanded for an immediate arrest and prosecution of the State Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd), over alleged links to bandits who have been terrorising various parts of the state, in the past few months.

Recall that angry Youth in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State have on Tuesday, razed down the residence of the Commissioner over alleged complicity with criminals terrorizing the area.

Before the Tuesday's protests , Col. Moyi has been found severally defending the activities of criminal gangs in the area and has prevented every attempt by the people of the community, to protect themselves against the invading bandits.

In a statement by the Coalition, signed by the Coordinator Comrade Abubakar Mohammed Maraye the groups said the fundamental rights of the people, to freedom and protection can longer be guaranteed at a time that public officials who are saddled with the responsibility of protecting the people have now become accomplices and collaborators, with the gangs that are tormenting the innocent people of Sokoto State.

While demanding for an immediate sack and prosecution of the indicted commissioner and others who have been known to be sponsors of the bandits and other criminal gangs in the state, the group said it will not hesitate to protest against any attempt by the Sokoto State government or any authority to shield those who have become tools for the criminals who are making life unbearable for the people of the state.

"Let it be known to the people of Isa Local government and our citizens across Sokoto State, that we will stand by them and we will no longer fold our arms and allow people who are paid by tax payers money to protect to now become their enemies by conspiring with criminal elements, to continually make life unbearable for our people. This we say, enough is enough," the statement concluded.
