Endangered Dolphins - How It Started by Nathanphillips5(m): 7:53am On Oct 04, 2021
Dolphins are commonly known for their friendly, social, and playful behavior. Dolphins are marine mammals that belong to the cetacean family. But the sad truth is that out of 41 dolphin species, 5 and 6 sub-species are endangered.

Why Are Dolphins Endangered?

There are many reasons for dolphins to fall in the endangered species category; some of them are discussed below:-

Illegal hunting: -  Illegal hunting is one of the main reasons dolphins are endangered. Hunting is illegal even then. Some hunters hunt dolphins, and that results in a highly decreasing rate in the population of dolphins.

Population: - Overpopulation of only one type of species also results in decreasing population of dolphins. For that, proper balance is required.

Boats and technology: - The increase in technology and booting also affect the number of dolphins. The dolphins can be hurt by the boats, and some technologies are present there that affect the number of marine mammals.

Global warming: - Global warming affects not only us but also affects marine mammals.

Construction of dams: - Over contractions of barriers is unsuitable for marine mammals, as their everyday lives are badly affected.

Lack of food due to humans overhunting fish: - Because of overhunting, food crises occur for marine mammals.

Fishing net: - Due to the fishing net, most of the dolphins are trapped by the hunters. That is not a good thing. You can discover here for more information about endangered dolphins.

How did they become endangered?

Any species become endangered mainly for two reasons loss of habitat and loss of genetic variation.

Loss of habitat: - Any species becomes endangered when they cannot adapt to the change in temperature. Mainly, the dolphins easily adjust to the temperature change, but some of them cannot do so in some cases. As a result, they lost their life.

Loss of genetic variation:-  Genetic variation is the diversity found within the species. Genetic variation allows species to adapt to changes in the environment—shortage of gene variation results in species being endangered.

Conclusion

Suppose we have to save dolphins from being endangered. For that, we have to stop our unnecessary activities and take some steps to save dolphins. Some common activities that we have changed are stopping hunting, constructing dams, reducing boating, and not polluting the water bodies.
