France has won the Nations League trophy for the first time in their history with a late goal from Kylian Mbappe, and France coming from behind to beat Spain 2-1.

The Spaniard forward Mikel Oyarzabal broke the deadlock after a goalless first half with a superb low driven goal and a beautiful through pass from Sergio Busquets before Karim Benzema responded almost immediately with a stunning shot from the edge of the box into the top corner of the net, thanks to a great assistance from Mbappe.

Both sides pushed to win their first Nations League title, but Kylian Mbappe found the winner late on after calmly slotting the ball home into the net and the goal was checked for possible offside but VAR ruled in favour of the French side.

Meanwhile, the Nations League third/fourth play-off game was not void of actions as Italy held Belgium to a narrow 2-1 win.

After a first half that had less action, Nicolo Barella scored the opener two minutes into the second half from a set piece corner, with the Inter Milan midfielder sending a low shot past Real Madrid goal keeper Thibaut Courtois.

Italy doubled their lead when Federico Chiesa was fouled by Timothy Castagne inside the 18 yard box and Domenico Berardi scoring the sport kick for his home side coolly, with Courtois pushing the ball into his own net.

Late on, Courtois’ long throw found De Bruyne in the Italian half, creating a counter attack for the Belgium side and De Bruyne passed through to Charles De Ketelaere who squeezed the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma and into the net, scoring a life line goal but it was too late for a comeback.
