History has been made in South Africa as Sunny Wenike became the first River state indigene and Ikwere man to hold the exalted position of President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo South Africa.

Wenike emerged as the President after a keenly contested election held on March 20, 2021 at the Nigerian Consulate in Johannesburg.

Wike junior as he is fondly called, has been into humanitarian services, community rights activism for more than twenty years. In a telephone chat with TBE Magazine correspondent, Miss Augusta Uche, Wenike said that he is a grassroot mobilizer who had held several leadership positions in the past, promising that his administration will take Ohanaeze South Africa to a greater height. "My position today is by God's grace and a result of hard work. I am a grassroot mobilizer. I have always been ready to serve. My administration will take Ohanaeze South Africa to a greater height. I will make River state proud like my elder brothers, His Excellencies Nyesom Wike and Chibuike Amaechi".

Before his emergence as the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo South Africa, Sunny Wenike has served humanity in these capacities;

1. Founder and former Chairman, Organized Youth Council of River state.

2. Former Financial Secretary and Acting Secretary, Nigerian Union in South Africa (NUSA), Johannesburg chapter.

3. Former Secretary, Association of River state Indigenes South Africa.

4. Coordinator, Niger Delta Youth Coalition South Africa.

5. Former Public Relation Officer (P.R.O), Nigerian Citizens Association, South Africa.

6. Former Acting Secretary, Ohanaeze Ndigbo South Africa amongst others.

This is old news, but this comment is making lots of sense.

I'm not sure he is "Wike's brother" as stated. But I heard of the news over a month ago. He just celebrated the new yam festival for the Igbos there with Abaribe and other top personalities on zoom attendance.

From the way the whole thing has been going he seems like one who has been in Igbo circles in South Africa for a while. He doesn't carry himself like an outsider at all, neither is he regarded as such.

I can't talk much about the young man but I can say that no matter what the politics of today is, there will always be some Ikwerre who want to identify with the rest of the Igbo nation at any time the opportunity presents itself.

One or two of my friends in SA were not happy about this... Although the guy was chosen or won convincingly and I guess he played that, "opportunity", "unity" and "marginalisation" game well...

You needed to see the huge event he threw in SA as his first programme in charge at the Sheraton Hotels in J'bourg and see men in attendance. Even Abaribe and Ekweremadu attended virtually and made some speech.

His people with the backing of Ikwerre People's Congress led by Livingstone Wechie are solidly behind him. SA happens to be one of the most active of these ohaneze outside of Nigeria.

I don't think this game is from Wike, I think and believe it is from Amaechi... I feel that Wechie's role in the whole game makes me think this...although I have not dug deeper yet.

Although Wechie is a strong Igbophile for long but you know with these people, they speak from both sides of their mouth.

On the other hand, I guess Wike could see that he lost a huge fanbase with his wicked shenanigans and reign of terror in Obigbo, he is walking around these days wearing Igbo attire up and down.

I must say however, Ikwerre people are not homogenous and neither their language. There are many on their side trying to sort the identity crisis over there.


Final note, you see all these people with identity crisis, once they step outside of their village or Nigeria eh, you won't believe they are the same people with such crisis. I have met many of them in Igbo functions outside of Nigeria.

They continue to enjoy Igbo privileges yet some of their misguided brothers continue disgracing themselves.

They want to eat their cake and still have it.

No wahala Sha, only time will tell.
