Accidents occur way more than we think and can cause various problems. We can take all the precautions while driving, but one can never be too safe. The accident could be minor, but one wrong action after it could cause you a lot of trouble. An experienced lawyer help you out in the case of injuries from serious car accidents.

However, we need to avoid some mistakes from our side too.

Never run away from the scene of the accident.

According to the law, you are obligated to stop and step out of your vehicle immediately after you realize you are involved in the accident. Leaving the scene of an accident may cause you to pay a heavy fine and, most importantly, can look like an admission of guilt.

Always inform the police.

Once you step out, inform the police even if no one is hurt or no property damage is done. The police at the scene can introspect the incident, consult the witnesses, and write an unbiased report, which later becomes essential during the trial or settlement.

Never miss out on the details.

We can understand that such things happen in seconds, but the events before and after are also significant. The background environment and surrounding nature also matter. Try to take some pictures of your vehicle and injuries as evidence, which you are allowed to. Keep a check on the time and date of the accident. Try to keep pictures of the other person’s vehicle and number plate as well.

Never give an apology.

When an accident occurs, we might get emotional and sympathize with the other person by saying we are sorry but do not ever do that. Anything you say after the accident will be used in the court of law, so the other person’s lawyer can use this apology as an admission of guilt and will twist the whole case around.

Never get in contact with a third party without your lawyer.

Once you settle down after the accident, try to hire a good lawyer as soon as possible. Such cases seem simple to handle but can get way too harsh for us. The third-party may try to reach you through their insurance company to fetch some information against your case but don’t answer such conversations without a lawyer. You are not even obligated to do so.

Inform your insurance company

Be honest and upfront about the accident with your car insurance service provider. If you fail to do so at the earliest, you might not be able to claim coverage for your damage. The statement that you give to them might also help you. If you do this with your lawyer, it would be much better.

Let's be practical please.

Step out of the vehicle and get run over by traffic? If no one is hurt nor property damaged... where is the evidence of an accident?
