President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged all to debate the LGBTQ+ bill before Parliament in a civil and tolerant manner.

He said there was need for respect for the opinions of all and sundry in the debate on the Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, a private member’s bill sponsored by some law makers, that seeks to criminalize the practice and promotion of same sex relations in Ghana.

Speaking on an Accra radio station at the start of his three-day tour of the Greater Accra region on Thursday, the President appealed to Members of Parliament to have civil discussions on the Bill.

He said though the Bill sought to check the activities of the LGBTQ+ community, there was need for the public to respect each other’s opinion on the matter.

President Akufo-Addo was happy that opportunity had been created for a private member sponsored bill to be considered by Parliament.

“What I hope for is that the debate itself would be civil and that we would recognise the need for us to be tolerant, of each other’s views even when they are opposing views,” he said.

The President was hopeful that the process for the consideration of the bill would be a credit to Ghanaian democracy

“I am hoping that the process would continue in an acceptable manner and at the end of the day we would know the position of our legislature,” he said.

The Proper Human Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, which has received tremendous endorsement by religious organizations, traditionalists and individuals, has been considered as one of the most draconian anti-gay law worldwide.

The bill which is yet to reach the second reading stage in Parliament, proposes jail terms ranging from two years to 10-year jail term for gay activities.

The Bill has read for the first time and referred to the Select Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs of Parliament.

The Committee, which is currently considering the bill, has received over 130 memoranda in support and against the bill. Other Organization and Individuals like Human right watch, researcher, Teachers and Academic have been in support of the LGBTQ community and they need to be added to the Ghanaian family bills, and hoping so, Ghana will legalize lgbt soon

Never has it been so clear that we are Living in the Last of the Last Moments before JESUS Christ Returns.

Despite the Damages, Disaters ,Catastrophes and Warning Signals from GOD ALMIGHTY to the Earth that HE is about to Show up and the Example set before us of the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah and those in the Noah days, World Leaders and Inhabitants are shaking their Fist to GOD and telling Him we don't Care!

It is So unfortunate that African Nations, Despite seeing the Grace of GOD on the Continent are Debating about joining the bandwagon of Abominables

I Weep for the Earth Inhabitants approving, Indulging or Supporting these Abominations!
I weep For the Rebellious, Stubborn and Heady of this Generation.
It is FEARFUL thing to FALL into the Hands of GOD.

Unadulterated Wrath and JUDGEMENT like never before is at Hand.

I Admonish all to Run to JESUS Christ so as to Escape the Impending Doom that is set to Hit.

LGTBQ lives amongst us already. The legalisation will make no difference but it will reduce the hypocrisy.

It cannot also make straight people gay!

I just hope Ghana legalize it, Everyone deserve to be happy irrespective of your sexuality! Human right should be protected, some of you here saying nonsense against the lgbtq community, the white peoples also think the black community was sub humans and slave, They thought we were evil, we fought for freedom, and we gained it, if not for that freedom we would still be slave by now.. even America people you see protecting the gay community once hated them, they were burning homosexuals and calling it mental illness until 1970s when they found out that being gay is natural and not evil, you can’t change it and people don’t choose it, they also need freedom.

If our governments wants it's anti gay law to stand, then it should do a constitutional amendment were fundamental human rights is removed then a law like that can stand. But you can't claim to protect human rights and put people in jail for living their lives because you don't like how they do it. It's a mockery of constitutional democracy. You can't eat your cake and have it.
