CARING FOR YOUR BACK.
Back pain can be distressing and may lead to serious disruption in activities of daily living. The spine starts to age around the 30s and continues throughout the rest of life. Conscious efforts to protect the back would go a long way in reducing the chances of developing back pain.
Poor posture, lack of exercise, excessive weight and smoking are known risk factors for back pain.
Posture is the position the body sustains while standing, walking, sitting or lying down. Good posture refers to the correct use of the body to perform these activities. Good posture involves teaching the body to stand, walk, sit and lie in a way that the least strain is placed on the muscles and ligaments while moving or performing weight bearing activities.
We will be considering correct standing and sitting postures.
1) Correct standing posture
