Nigerian diplomat acquire $3.2mn apartment for government without legislative knowledge

+ Late Kenny Rogers family is one of her celebrity neighbors

+ Reps kick. Says it's a waste of public fund.

+ Angry Nigerians in America want her recalled, prosecuted

Nigerians in Atlanta, Georgia, have called for investigation into the $3.2mn apartment allegedly purchased by Dr Amina Smaila for the Federal Government when the one currently housing the Consul General is still in use and cheaper.

The five bedroom, seven baths and sitting on 8200 square feet apartment is on the most expensive street in Georgia. Kenny Rogers is one of the many celebrities that live on 3460 Tuxedo road, NW.

Guests invited to the house warming party in September were stunned when they initially were told by the Consul General that the government had paid for the apartment without discussing the purchase with members of the legislative arm. Some House of Representative members at the party were particularly miffed on hearing what it cost Nigerian government to buy the house.

"When the House of Representative members heard it, they flared up and promised to probe the clandestine purchase when they get back to Nigeria. That was when Dr Smaila changed her story and said the government was only paying a rent of $14,973 each month on the apartment," said a source in Atlanta.

Speaking further, the source said there is already a disharmony among Nigerian diplomats in the city as scandal after scandal has rocked the Consul General. She was fingered in the fraudulent activities around the provision of passport for Nigerians.

"Last year, Nigerians in Atlanta paid through their noses to acquire a passport here. What should cost us $130 coat us between $600 and $900. We complained about this fraud but the president did not do anything. The rot is still going on. Now, this.

"The old residence of the Consul General is still in good condition and cheaper. It was bought for $1.03mn in 2005 or so and the consulate is just 10 minutes drive from the Consul General's residence to the office. This new apartment however is a 25 minutes drive to the consulate. Does that make sense if truly Nigeria is not economically bouyant?

"Buhari allows rots like this to go on here because a majority of the consulates are run by children of his cabinet members or friends. This Consul General is not only related to a high ranking officer in Buhari's cabinet, but she was moved above three other more qualified diplomats.

"For us as Nigerians here, this rot is one too many. Petitions have been written against the woman and we will not stop until something is done about the hushed purchase. Nigeria does not need this. No country has tow residences for their Consul General in any city in the United States. This is fraudulent. What she or her godfather in Nigeria are planning is to buy the apartment before the end of Buhari's tenure for a ridiculous amount while Nigeria would have actually paid for the house for her.

"Nigerians should rise up against this fraud. We don't need the apartment. Dr Smaila should be recalled and prosecuted", he said.

I would have believed but a Google check on the distance between both buildings - consulate general, and this newly purchased building on Tuxedo Road,is 25 minutes whilst you claim it is 2 hours.

What more could you have lied about?

While I know that Nigeria Consulate is one of the most corrupt ever in their respective domain especially the Atlanta one, below is the name of the property owner and sold date on the Fulton county and other privately information sourced website.

That property is around Buckhead and below is the data. ELMERS micheal is the current owner. However he bought it in 2019 and no one is sure if that property recently sold in August 2021 but the data will soon be available somehow somehow if that’s true.

But currently, based on government records, the owner is Elmers Michael so we need credible evidence from you on the contrary.

They should investigate further. If truly she bought the property, then it was bought unlawfully through the back door. That means the Fed govt name nor her name is not on it. Nigerians in ATL doing the investigation should show more proof so they can nail her.

Is he loyal to APC?

That's all that matters

To buttress my point, below is that of the 9650 Roberts Dr, Atlanta, GA 30350. It is clearly stated that it was owned by the Nigerian government.

They should do more research and find credible evidence to nail her if it later turned out to be true that she did.

From Concerned Nigerians in Diaspora living in the United States
An Open Letter to the Presidency and the Ministry of External Affairs in Abuja, Nigeria.

RE: Gross Impunity of Nigerian Ambassador in Atlanta, USA.

Concerned Nigerians in the United States wish to call on the Presidency and the Honorable Minister of External Affairs in Nigeria to conduct a fair but thorough investigation into the allegations making rounds against the Nigerian Embassy or Consulate in Atlanta, GA, United States.
Since his Excellency, President Buhari’s administration, we have heard and seen the tremendous efforts that have been put towards fighting corruption and placing Nigeria back on a pedestal of dignity and respect in/among the Comity of States; unfortunately, this has yet again proved to be a deep-rooted problem. Its ugly head has once again been reared, and this time at the Nigerian Embassy in Atlanta.
It is an understatement to mention that Nigerians in Atlanta and the United States as a whole are embarrassed by the conduct of the current administration at the Atlanta Embassy and wish that action be taken to prevent the image of our dear country from being further dragged into the mud. The allegations are as follows.

• There are allegations that Mrs. Amina Amira Smaila, the Consul General in Atlanta, has been frolicking all over Atlanta with a locale named Mr. Moses Damisa. The news making rounds is that he lives with her in the same house and moves around at the Nigerian Embassy like he is the Ambassador. As much as this may seem her private life, as a representative of Nigeria in the United States, Mrs. Smaila is expected to conduct herself more appropriately in the discharge of her duty…… as the saying goes, “get a room.” She should not put her dirty linen in all our faces.

• Social Media mishandling by the Ambassador’s boyfriend – It is gathered that the Ambassador’s boyfriend, who is not a staff of the Embassy, manages the Embassy’s website and social media accounts at a very exorbitant cost due to his relationship with the Ambassador. This, we also gathered, is in defiance of the standard and more acceptable uniform website platform controlled by the Ministry of External Affairs. Most foreign Embassies sustain websites connected to their Foreign Ministries in their countries. This allegation should be investigated for misappropriation of funds and misuse of such a platform for personal aggrandizement. If displeasing to the Ambassador, constructive criticism made on the Embassy social media profiles is removed by Mr. Damisa. She practically runs Consulate’s affairs through an outsider; this calls her competence to question

• Unprofessional and undiplomatic conduct of the Ambassador in public- Mrs. Amina has been alleged to have made unfiltered comments and conducted herself most unprofessionally in specific public fora. Diplomats that we know don’t divulge confidential government information to audiences who are not meant to have such information. She had spoken unscrupulously about internal official matters with Nigerian organizations who pay her courtesy visits. Besides, she has thrown caution to the wind by dancing erotically in public events. This calls to question the training Nigerian Diplomats undergo before they are sent out to represent the country.

• Driver dismissed over her unhealthy relationship: An experienced driver, who had served in two Nigerian Embassies, Washington DC and Atlanta, for several years, was frustrated to the point of resignation because of Mr. Damisa’s misbehavior which the Ambassador failed to caution. Mr. Damisa gives the local staff orders at will, and the Ambassador turns a blind eye to his misbehavior.

• Waste of taxpayers’ hard-earned money on renting a mansion when Nigeria has provided a habitable house for Ambassadors at the Consulate – it is no longer news that Mrs. Smaila has been alleged to be wasteful with government resources. She has rented a house for 11,000 USD per month when an official Residence for Nigerian Ambassadors in Atlanta. Nigerians would like to know why the Government would tolerate such wasteful behavior.

• Wasteful way of life- Further allegations are that Mrs. Smaila and her boyfriend have gone on a shopping spree to equip the mansion she rented with the most expensive furniture and decorations at government expense. Nigerians wish to know how the Minister of External Affairs will allow an ambassador to leave a government-owned Residence to waste and unoccupied, then go and rent a mansion. Is that how rich Nigeria is now?

• She has spent over $250,000, including rent and furnishing, on the house; she didn’t get approval to lease. The money would have been more than sufficient to renovate the official house.

• Sectional representation of Nigerian Organizations in Atlanta – Mrs. Amina has chosen to associate with only a few groups of Nigerian people and organizations rather than the whole.

These are serious allegations, and we implore his Excellency, President Mohammadu Buhari GCFR, and the Ministry of Foreign affairs to look into them. Let this not tarnish the fight against indiscipline and corruption his Excellency; President Buhari has started. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
