For those who don't know, Fulanis are categorized into 3 according to their lifestyles:

1. Nomadic Fulani (popularly known as Bararo or Bororo) -- They don't settle in one place, they are always moving from one place to another in search of pasture for their ruminants (cows, goats and sheep).

Nomadic Fulanis don't have a permanent home, village or town. They don't do any business apart from rearing animals. Their children never attend school.

2. Semi-Nomadic Fulani -- They are living in a Fulani settlements called "ruga". They engaged both in animal rearing and farming. They also do some little businesses in larger villages and towns where weekly markets operate.

Semi-Nomadic Fulani maintained both their language and traditional culture and, at the same time, engaged in other, traditionally considered, " non-Fulani" activities, such as farming and trading.

3. Sedentary Fulani (Fullo Wuro in Fulfulde, Fulanin Gida in Hausa, or in a layman's language, "Fulanis of the House"wink -- These are called settled Fulanis. They discarded their traditional archaic way of "living for cows" completely, moved to large towns and cities, got education and embraced modern ways of living and also engaged in various occupations and salary-earning jobs.

Fulanis of this category have typical physical appearances of the Fulanis --the slimness, silky and wavy hair, straight nose, thin lips, small mouth and, mostlly, fair skin-- but they can't even speak the language, they speak Hausa as their language and, by extension, "became" Hausas culturally.

Most Fulani elites --politicians, traditional rulers, academicians, business tycoon, etc-- fall under this category.

This 3rd category are widely considered Hausa-Fulani --- people who are initially Fulanis, but abandoned their tribe and culture and adopt Hausa lifestyle, or that of any other larger host communities, as the case maybe.

DON'T CONFUSE HAUSAS WITH FULANIS

Hausa is lingua franca in the North, just like Pidgin in the South and Middle Belt. And ALMOST everybody in the North can speak Hausa, except those living in a very remote areas. But not everyone who speak Hausa fluently is Hausa.

For the sake of clarification, Hausa people are short, dark with potbelly and have tribal marks, though these days few have the marks. And due to intermarriages with mostly Fulanis have given Hausas a few tall and slim offspring.

Fulanis are the same. They are all destroyers: Uthman Dan Fodio, Buhari, Herders, bandits, kidnappers, beggers are using different methods to accomplish same things.
