Outskirts of Lagos is full of faulty buildings. There is no supervision of buildings going on there. Every Laye, Sheriff or Idris is a building Engineer there.

There is sth I don't understand about Nigeria. Why is that when one thing happens at a certain time, it will become ubiquitous in no distant time?

If it were fashion, it will be understandable that its trend will be inevitable. But collapsing buildings? Mehn.

Ripple effect

It is either Lagos soil is not good for storey buildings or building materials are substandard or we have unprofessional building engineers or d regulatory agencies are corrupt & incompetent.

Something is definitely wrong somewhere. In the 1980s and 1990s uneducated and uncertified Engineers built tens of thousands of highrises of 4 to 6 floors in many Nigerian cities especially Southeast but there were barely cases of building collapse. 99.9% of the buildings are still very much in use till today with no cracks. I suspect cement more than I suspect other materials.
