Well...it's no longer news that Mr Tinubu and Mr Kalu are both gunning for Nigeria's presidency. It's also not news that the former met with the latter on the same subject matter. So why would Tinubu want Kalu to step down for him? I can hazard a guess/guesses.

1) The north certain have made it clear that they're backing Kalu for presidency. The signs are there: brought him out of prison for presidency. The antecedence is there - Obasanjo.

2) Tinubu knows that with Kalu and the backing of the military generals that made Kalu a billionaire, prior to the days of PDP, that he stood no chance in a contest. He's got the dough but not the clout, like the generals that made Obasanjo president.

3) Tinubu knows that the clock is ticking... His time must be now or never. He isn't getting any younger na. Kalu can still contest in 8 years but certainly not Tinubu. Even now, the electorate are already saying that he's too old.

4) He needs the support of the south, especially Igbo. And hoped that Kalu would join his train and boost his popularity considering his 2015 misadventure that has made him a stench in the nostrils of all southerners in the East and South when he betrayed a southern president - Jonathan.

In a nutshell, Tinubu knows when the odds are against him.

Tinubu that is about to settle for another vice presidency for the Yorubas? You actually think that Tinubu will have the effontery to demand for Nigerias presidency? After relinquishing the South West slot as the national assembly speaker to the northerners during the GEJ administration? Or you are thinking that Buhari will hand over to a non fulani? All these visits and airport welcoming celebrations for Tinubu are to make him feel loved and important to the caliphate. Not to prepare him for any presidency.

Buhari has never thought of Tinubu as a president. The north is desperate to continue ruling and is only trying to force a squabble between the East and the West to use that as an excuse. . That squabble won't happen because obviously in the East, there is no appetite for such non beneficial confrontations. Tinubu is being asked to support a Northern candidate. Tinubu is not being programmed to take over from Buhari! At the appointed time, remember you heard it first here...

This lacks depth I think.

Tinubu is the biggest contender as of today...every other person is an underdog...but of course underdog can win.
