My Horrible Experience Opening A Gtbank Domiciliary Account by Amaechi5(m): 7:05pm On Nov 22, 2021
Hello everyone, please I need to know if anyone of you has ever faced this situation with gtbank domiciliary account.

I opened this account since the month of August 18th 2021 and which the bank sent me an account number requesting that I should fund the account in order to activate it.

I did as the bank stated but this happens to be the biggest mistake I made this year. I funded the account since 22nd of August and upon going to the bank to withdraw the money I found out that the bank has placed a restriction on my domiciliary account.

I inquired the reason for the restriction and was told that one of the referees was rejected.

The worst part is that I've submitted four extra referees (Reference forms) and they were all rejected for just no reason or they weren't suitable. Since August till now which is November (three months) gtbank is still restricting my account and kept on rejecting my referees even though these referees comply with gtbank domiciliary account requirements.

The only problem is that they are not gtbank current account holders and I don't know where to get anyone with gtbank current account.

My question is why would gtbank send me an account number when they probably knew the account isn't fully functional?

Why didn't gtbank explain to me that these referees weren't suitable before going ahead to give me an account number?

Why would gtbank request that I fund the account in order to activate it whilst the account is being restricted from debit transaction?

All I needed from gtbank is to give me my money and take their account along with their dollar debit card which they even collected the fees from my gtbank savings account.

Guys please I would love to hear your experience opening a domiciliary account in gtbank and mod please if possible please I'm begging move this to front page cause I'm getting sick over this issue.

Thank you.

That is Nigerian bank for you, they didn't want to tell you before funding it because they need customers, just try and get the referees using their account, after that just withdraw everything and say goodbye to them.

To open a dom account with gtb or any other bank, your referees must be current account holders with the said bank. The only way for you to get the restriction removed from the account is to look for a gtb current account holder to sign for you else your money will be stuck there.

They are keen about having a refree that is operating the same account with them. You'll have asked though. Anyway>>>> come closer

I will tell you this for free. Visit any BDC operator and confide in him that if you stabilize, you'll be changing your USD with him, they have those things in abundance. They'll happily be your refree

Are there other ways to save foreign currencies apart from the banks?what about digital banks?

Why don't you shut down the account. Or request to see the account officer in charge of the account, have one - on - one conversation with him/her.

I'm very sure, your account officer can link up You with a suitable refree.

I contacted zenith bank and they said as long as I have an existing naira account with them, I don't need referees to open their domiciliary account.

Your best bet is to stay with a traditional bank...they are regulated by CBN and you know where their head office is located!

Most of those digital companies lie a lot, they will be showing you online account dashboards with fake or non-existent account balances meanwhile their MD and his top lieutenants will be using depositors funds to flex life.

Anything that concerns your life savings make sure you only entrust it to a bank that is regulated!

That is bullsh1t!

They just told you that so you will come open the account.

There is no bank anywhere that will allow you to transfer referees from on account to another account even if they are held by the same person

But my annoyance with gtbank is that they should have been transparent with their customers, and state that the referees or at least one must be from gtbank. I wouldn't have wasted my time going to open a Dom account with them since I can't seem to find any gtbank current account holder.

Well this is down to Nigeria poor banking system.

Go and look for a suitable referee. The bank has no reason to restrict your account if your referees are suitable.

Right, with zenith u don't need referees as long as you have an existing account. You will also be credited #5 into your naira acct for each dollar that enters your domiciliary acct.
