A cross-section of the senior national team of Nigeria have reportedly kicked against the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to sack the coach of the team, Gernot Rohr, Newspremises has learnt.

According to Own Goal Nigeria, the German technician is said to have been told that his services is no longer needed and he has already communicated via text messages to his players wishing them the best in their future endeavors.

Reacting to the news, a senior player in the team faulted the timing of the sack insisting that the players knew what went wrong during the qualifiers that made the team play poorly.

''We are few weeks to camping for the Africa Cup of Nations. Then the tournament and the World Cup playoff. Sacking our coach now makes no sense. We know why we played poorly during the World Cup qualifiers. It wasn’t Rohr’s fault”, he said.

Another player who recently fell out of favour in the squad also had this to say:

"If as a group we decide to be honest many will tell you Rohr isn’t the issue. He did his best to carry all along but some players have people in high places and what they can’t do at their clubsides is what they are comfortable doing in camp. Most times a day to game or even the morning before games”, he said.

A goalkeeper in the same team also shared his view on the decision calling it a poor decision by all standard and like the others warns the NFF of the implications of sacking Rohr now.

” Africa Cup Of Nations is in January. We don’t have a coach three weeks to the start of camping. This is poor timing and the NFF should know this. They know how they divided the team and it showed on the pitch. This is beyond Rohr”, he concluded.

If the working conditions is not suitable for you...If you can't operate with free hands...Then quit NFF job before your professional image is soiled....That's what good coaches do!

Said it all and just as I stated a few days ago.

The 'House' is the responsibility of the father figure.
The living conditions and the effect on the children are entirely his responsibility.
He has the power to lay down the law or quit.

It is a Nigerian thing to manage mediocrity and if Rohr has started down this lane it is time to look for a 'real' foreign technical hand.
Because the very essence of a foreigner amongst other things is that he is immune to the 'Nigerian-ess' in us.

That team needs a disciplinarian, a vocalist.

Mercy after death. So, the players know that they have been playing poorly. Since, some of them have been misbehaving before each of those matches, then they should suffer the consequence of their actions, which ultimately is getting kicked out of the AFCON in the group stage. In those days, the senior players were able to help in imposing a measure of discipline in the younger players and new entrants. Though backed by irresponsible administrators, as claimed, Rohr is too docile. Westerhoff never allowed any power that be, influence his players so negatively. The sex party issue, I believe was not a one off thing. Rohr never made an effort to decamp the players involved. Rather, Awaziem started the match, and Iheanacho came in later.
They have grown too comfortable with the gaffer. Such level of disrespect. Well, just to digress a bit, this may be an offshoot of the level of decadence and impunity in the society.
