In Nigeria, there is a difference between panties/bras and bikinis. While a contemporary Nigerian woman refers to undies as a piece of clothing worn under a garment, she perceives a bikini as an item of clothing worn to the beach for the world to admire.

This is why a woman would try to cover herself when clad in undies but will pose for the cameras in what they call bikinis. But the truth is, the only difference between undies and a bikini is just the name.

Back in the ’90s when Nollywood was at its infancy and the entertainment industry was still coming up, no female celebrity was bold enough to publicly clad herself in a pant and bra and refer to it as a bikini. The celebrities were bold enough to either wear a one-piece swimsuit or bum shorts at the pool or to the beach which seem pretty decent.

But nowadays, there has been a fashion craze that seems to be taking over the entertainment industry. Almost every female celebrity wants to pose in pants and bras and rub it in our faces that they are hotter than the sun.

Welcome to the era of bikini and body exposure which emanated from another trend; the plastic surgery body exhibition that is spreading like wildfire amongst female celebrities.

Is it Trashy to Wear a Bikini?

The bikini pictures these female celebrities usually post always raises an eyebrow. It emphasizes a camera angle that draws more attention to the boobs and pubic areas that makes one wonder about the message they are trying to pass across.

I can’t fathom how a regular OAP who has a job as a TV or radio host would pose in a pant and bra and still resume work on Monday as a staff of an organization without batting an eyelid.

Imagine watching an OAP on-air while staring at her half-clad pictures online. Also, imagine your boss staring at the images of your almost nude self while delegating duties to you. If you don’t consider it awkward, then you need to have yourself checked.

Draw your conclusions by stating why you think Nigerian female celebrities are trying to outdo each other.

So because of one person's opinion women should start wearing kaftans to the beach? Mscheew. We copy anything the white man does, if wearing bikinis to the beach is the in-thing, we'll follow it without question. Destiny the lokito is wearing a modified bra. It's funny how as a man I've recently learned the difference between bra and panties compared to bikinis. Many black women are ignorant on the difference.
