Decide2rise:Is the award for the last 2 years or for 2021??
He scored more goals than messi and trophy wise he got more trophies this year than Messi. Don't try to make it poland and Argentina comparison.
and who said the award is strictly about goals?? Trophies?? list them |

aribisala0: jeez, is it that half of the world don't know what Ballon d'Or is?? it's only Journalists that votes. It's not FIFA the best. and no the point difference is about 33+. It's 2019 that was 7. If 170 people voted randomly, then it's stands to reason there's a criteria and sentiment wasn't one of them 1 Like 1 Share |

gurunlocker: What nonsense are u saying...messi was the first that ever won it based on goals... what did messi do in 2010 , 2019 that Lewandowski dint do...the other times messi failed was cos Ronaldo outsgined him totally winning the champions league...out of the 7 he has won , 4 came without the champions league...out of 5 Ronaldo won, 4 was because of champions league ...the remaining 1, he was cheated, but the winner win champions league...nonsense award , always shifting it to favour the fraud |

emae009:Whether or not it is only Journalists that vote make s absolutely no difference to the premise which is that individuals vote .Whether they are journalists or Native doctors does not change the underlying premise and conclusion which is there is no objective or rational basis for interrogating how they voted unless they tell us. Factually I read somewhere that Musa, Rohr and a 3rd person chosen by the NFF to represent journalist voted on behalf of Nigeria Again I stand corrected on the 7 or 33 which once more changes nothing If anything it should make this years outcome less contentious. Let us not ignore the wood for the trees The point is people (individuals) vote and the same way they are chosen has not changed for a long time and so the outcome should be accepted for what it is unless there is clear evidence of corruption Your final statement is totally devoid of logic Sentiment operates at the individual level and if 170 vote it just means sentiment X 170 without any coherent organization of that sentiment |

Kingcalls: Please stop crying! No one knows the exact criterion for the winner. If you said it's by goal, then Messi should have at least 9.... If it's by winning UCL, Ronaldo won the year he wins UCL, even though he didn't perform well in league (Madrid faced UCL squarely)..... Did you say 2019? Or you mean 2020? Bro, no player dead or alive can get close to Messi quality, deal with it or cry more. 1 Like 1 Share |

emae009: This is where I got it from https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=41814 However it makes no difference if wrong , that is not the point . The point is that until proven otherwise they voted independently and it is the same process that has been in place for years |

OJEEMAH: Bro a lot of these folks don't know nada. they'll just go online find popular opinion and call it facts. The way they are quick to say 2010 like say Sneijder was a monster that year when the real protagonist for inter was Milito. Sneijder just the like Jorginho for this year. Simply existing in a team that won a tournament. I wonder why them no dey shout Jorginho was cheated tho 1 Like 1 Share |

aribisala0: they voted independently, then the tally is done in everybody's presence so you can be sure your vote wasn't overlooked. The way people are rushing to cling on popular opinion and take it has facts will one day do a lot of harm and that day of reckoning is very close 1 Like 1 Share |

Well in awards of this nature, those who lost out will always feel cheated out. However, being that the year in review was a year filled with international activities, that actually had to sway the judgement of the awards. Messi did spectacularly well and deserves all awards that has come to him. Lewandowski on the hand had a great year at the club level and not such a great year at the international level. So do we now put international football aside because of club football? 1 Like 1 Share |

aribisala0: what's is sentiment? if there are 5 people and I said chose those that are 6ft tall only. it doesn't matter who you like or whatever, you final choice will always be people that are 6ft tall or above. so where is the sentiment * 170, when they are given criteria and guidelines for their choice 1 Like 1 Share |

fergie001:The decision to expand was not primarily because it was exclusive to Europeans. If that was the reason, why do they have to wait till 1995 before taking that decision? The plain truth was because FIFA Award which began in 1991 had taken center stage and was beginning to render Balon D'or inconsequential and they didn't want to play second fiddle. Even in South America today, if you are not playing in the South American league, you can never win the South America Player of the Year. The likes of Ronaldinho, Tevez won it before they headed for Europe. Messi can't win it because he doesn't play there.Yes but Balon D'or had to expand to accommodate players from other continents cos Europe is the headquarter of footballer. If SA is like Europe, you would agree with me that, they would have changed that parochial and outdated law. The BD'Or is a thing of prestige but to me, I might be biased, won't outshine the world player of the year... The BD'or is respected because it started in the 50s, you won't compare that to FIFA's that started in 1991.No doubt but FIFA is known to be the governing body of football. Therefore, people tend to give high regard to the FIFA World Best. Do you know till date, many people do not know the difference between FIFA World Best & Balon D'or?? I don't belittle the Copa. You answered the question yourself, as you regard the AFCON as a little tournament. You do the same thing you accuse me of. Weah was crowned Africa' best player in 1989 and 1995.AFCON is not little per say but it can't be compared to Euro & Copa America which great of the greats have been gracing for decades. Again, Utd's win in 1999 was a team sport and not Beckham's team. He had absolutely no stat in that Competition, unlike Rivaldo who single-handedly carried that team. I gave you an example of Owen years later. Even Jorginho won the UCL & Euros, yet nobody see am.Yes, you did and this brings us back to 2010 that, Sneijder had 4 league, 3 UCL 3 or 4 WC goals compare to Messi. under normal circumstance, Iniesta should have beaten Messi cos he won everything with Messi except the WC but Messi stats was far better. That is why the Ballon d'Or is different from FIFA's award.Truth is, players performance should be the yardstick instead of team's achievements cos a player can perform well just like in 2012 & 2019, Messi did extremely well but people still criticized him cos Barcelona failed in the UCL semis. What about Ronaldo who won Ballon d'Or & fifa best in 2014 without winning nothing. No league, no UEFA Cup, no UCLI don't know if its because of the crazy numbers they did but their era limited it to goals and its unfair for midfielders, defenders and keepers. Votes by journalists, and we know how those in the media make things their own way. This is also a fact I am happy you are asking the question, Barca were at the UEFA Cup in 2004, lost out. Lost the league to Valencia yet Ronaldinho was FIFA best.Yes, to an extent but presently, no...... between then and now, Barcelona has achieved alot. If Carnavaro had remained with Juve after Calciopoli, will he have won the World Best?can't really say cos of the world cup If Modric had remained with Tottenham after that fantastic World Cup performance, will he have won the fifa best and Ballon d'Or?No, he wouldn't cos he wouldn't have won the UCL with spurs. You can answer these questions yourself. Messi won this award because he is Messi who plays for Barcelona (and not PSG).He won by a slight margin......The Messi factor played a minor role |
Re: 2021 Ballon D’or: It Was Lewandowski’s Award – Darren Bent by aribisala0(m): 4:03pm On Dec 01, 2021 |
emae009:Are the criteria fixed or flexible and subject to interpretation? Your 6ft analogy is totally wrong because if there were such objective criteria there would be no need to vote. We would not even be having any debate about whether the awardee deserved it We do not vote to determine who is taller or heavier. That, with respect , is a foolish example(Ii am not saying you are but the example is) The closest example to where that might be in dispute is a photo finish for a 100 m race . We do not vote to determine who wins a game. The criteria are CONCRETE and known to all 6 ft is 6 ft whether at the North pole or the Sahara dessert I think I know your problem I suspect you are confounding sentiment with bias Sentiment in this context simply means a personal preference which is not objective to a degree that it is shared by all It is not a pejorative If I prefer eba over semo and say it is better That is "sentiment" You may think the opposite that semo is better That is sentiment In the case of a vote such as this ALL CHOICES ARE SENTIMENT If they were genuinely objective everyone would vote THE SAME WAY |

OJEEMAH: I no dey perfect oo, buh i always strive to adhere to the set of standards nd codes that governs any profession i find my self, i.e, knocking off sentiments nd emotions. There's a sport show i normally listen to on radio, the anchor is core fan of Ronaldo nd a chronic anti-Messi. The annoying tin is that he doesn't hide it nor pretend to hiding it. Always bashing Messi in any given opportunity. This guy bashed Messi wen he got his 6th balon d'or in 2019 nd also bashed Messi after clinching his 7th. This guy took it so personal that some Messi fans including myself called nd started blasting his attitude. I keep wondering why some people will give room for sentiment in their profession. That's bad. The mods re no different from this guy above. We don't follow work ethics in this part of the world nd most employers re carefree as regards to professionalism. See, everybody get who nd wetin them like nd they support oo, buh if u they position wey u they intermediate btwn 2 or more people u hv to b unbiased at that point, buh wen u get to ur closet u can choose to show ur support wit full chest to whomever u wish. Later, same hypocrites will b insulting Buhari nd oda politicians as if they re beta themselves. 1 Like |

OJEEMAH:No.....You are wrong. No award can make the BD'Or inconsequential yet the FIFA best award will always take centre-stage. Can any competition in England make the FA Cup redundant? Never...because it is prestigious and the oldest competition. Yes but Balon D'or had to expand to accommodate players from other continents cos Europe is the headquarter of footballer. They needed to make it global, just like CAF; the same reason why CAF have refused to accept recommendations that the African Player of the Award should be left to only Africans who play in Africa like the South Americans do. There is nothing bad about that. If SA is like Europe, you would agree with me that, they would have changed that parochial and outdated law. They do that to make their players in South America have a sense of belonging. I don't want to criticise them for that. What drives them is different from what drives those in Europe. No doubt but FIFA is known to be the governing body of football. Therefore, people tend to give high regard to the FIFA World Best. Do you know till date, many people do not know the difference between FIFA World Best & Balon D'or??Very true.....that one will be given Jan 17 next year. AFCON is not little per say but it can't be compared to Euro & Copa America which great of the greats have been gracing for decades.I don't believe so....We have also had very good players during the AFCON. Just that we don't look to our own....just go through those who have won it. Those in Europe make us believe we are lesser. Yes, you did and this brings us back to 2010 that, Sneijder had 4 league, 3 UCL 3 or 4 WC goals compare to Messi.Messi stats better, not in a World Cup year. Messi didn't score a goal in that W/Cup. 1990 - Matthaus, Germany won the W/Cup 1994 - Romario, Brazil won (because of the Ballon d'Or rule, Stoichkov won the BD'or) 1998 - Zidane, France won the W/Cup 2002 - De Lima, Brazil won the W/Cup 2006 - Carnavaro, Italy won the W/Cup 2010 - Messi defies logic, Spain won 2014 - Ronaldo defies logic, Germany won 2018 - Modric, Croatia were finalists You can now see that Criteria change with those two......It's all about them. Truth is, players performance should be the yardstick instead of team's achievements cos a player can perform well just like in 2012 & 2019, Messi did extremely well but people still criticized him cos Barcelona failed in the UCL semis.Football is a team Sport. If you want where players will be individually recognised, there is Golf, Formula One and Boxing. I don't know if its because of the crazy numbers they did but their era limited it to goals and its unfair for midfielders, defenders and keepers. This is also a fact Yes, to an extent but presently, no...... between then and now, Barcelona has achieved alot. You can never compare Barcelona and Arsenal, not today, not 50 years ago. There is something called PR and French football wanted it for PSG.....that's all/ Messi will be the first PSG player to win the Ballon d'Or since inception in 1956. It's all the spotlight for French Football who has never won the Ballon d'Or since inception in 1956, excepting Jean-Pierre Papin in 1991. A Barca player has won the BD'Or 9 times since 1991. Juve - 3 AC Milan - 3 Real M - 7 Can't really say cos of the world cup No, he wouldn't cos he wouldn't have won the UCL with Spurs. He won by a slight margin......The Messi factor played a minor roleThe Messi factor played all of the role. There are no rules to these things. Once you are up against Messi or Ronaldo, you need to pray very hard. Don't worry, maybe on Jan 17...when the players and Coaches themselves vote...Things will sort themselves out. 2 Likes 2 Shares |
