Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has said that the issue of pardoning the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, is premature.

The AGF said this while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday December 1 which was closely monitored by The Vent Republic.

According to the controversial Minister, the trials associated with Kanu have not been concluded and as such the pardon option cannot get on the table just yet. Malami added that the option has not been ruled out.

He said;

“Pardon is a function of conviction in the Nigerian context and as far as I know, Nnamdi Kanu has not been convicted yet so the idea of pardoning him is premature."

When asked if granting the IPOB leader pardon is an option for peace in the South East, Malami said he is yet to assess the security implications of such a decision.

very sound reasoning. You can only pardon someone if found guilty. For now he hasn't been pronounced guilty. So pardon doesn't apply in anyway. Let him stay there till he is pronounced guilty or not guilty.

I will say Igbo should make sure all the security surrounding Kanu are Igbos or tell the UN to secure him. If anything should happen, he will be killed and that will be the war to avoid war make sure Kanu is not in any prison in Nigeria I don't know how that will work but he is not safe in Abuja. He will be killed soon or poisoned. If he is poisoned Buhari himself is not safe anymore and Abuja might be a killing field that is what I see.
