In your own case, most of what people said above are very useful. But here are what I will add to what have been already said.

1. Stop staying alone, stay among good people, stay in the mosjid most of the time, and each night when you want to sleep, read Quran. Make habit of reading the holy Quran most of the parts of your day.

Secondly, always stay on fasting. .... may almighty be with you in all your endeavors and uplift you above all your enemies.

And lastly, at least for now, when the thought if mastubation comes to you, recite suratul ikhlas, mahuuzataen and ayat kursiyu... may almighty Allah be with everyone of us.

Yusuf al-Qaradawi (in his book The Lawful and Prohibited in Islam) quotes a leading scholar who regard it as no more than like answering a call of nature. I always laugh anytime i read about people trying to quit masturbating... More like saying they want to quit eating, drinking, sleeping and every other natural instincts.

Nobody can quit masturbation except you fornicate or get married...If after marriage you still find yourself doing it then you need to work on yourself but as long as you are still single and not allowed to fornicate, msturbation is a welcomed alternative both for males and females and GOD can never hold us accountable for the feeling he meticulously placed in us.

Wa alaikum asalam. Jumaah greetings to you. Well it's quite obvious that masturbation is Haram. Because what is bad is clear and what is good is also clear and then there are ambiguities in-between. That's according to an Hadith. If u take a look at masturbation, it only leaves you with negative effects if it were to be good, or permissible am not sure any one would come out to seek help against it. For those who may say, it safeguards against committing fornication, the truth is, the more u engage in it, the more u are likely to go beyond masturbation to commit the actual fornication with the opposite sex.
Some recommendations to overcome it:
1. Control your thoughts, keep yourself busy with work that would leave with less chance to engage in or think about masturbation. Also take up sports or any activity in which u are carried along by the group
2. Try to avoid staying alone or indoors alot of time
3. Seek refuge from Allah against the shaytan alot and do alot of dhikr
4. Speak to your mallam about it, so he can help u pray against it
May Allah help u overcome the challenge cos once u have become addicted to it, it will take the grace of God for u to overcome it no matter what efforts u put in. Cos u will always be at risk of suffering a relapse. Old habits die hard

If you're not slothful, you can try this du'a.
1. Bismillah Al-raman Al-roheem: recite Ayatul Qurisiyyuh 174 immediately after suhr and Ishai on a daily basis for two weeks.
