Cross River State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Ben Ayade has recently fulfilled his pledge to restore parliamentary road light at nighttime, after twelve (12) years of power negligence at parliamentary extension in Calabar, the Cross River State, Capital.

This development appears after the governor, Ben Ayade earlier rehabilitated street lights to no fewer than twenty (20) remotes areas in Calabar-South gripped with darkness for over ten (10) years.

Speaking with newsmen during the installation of the transformer at parliamentary extension in Calabar. The Cross River State Commissioner of Power, Rt. Hon. Victor Agwu, indicated that, the chronic operation to restore the street/road lights in the area, is to obstruct robberies, to enrich and protect businesses during nightfall, to strengthen the security crew in the community, and to safeguard the residents during workout or movement at nights.

The Commissioner, similarly disclosed that, the street lights in the metropolis are primarily sourced from the Ayade Power Plants, which is situated at Parliamentary Extension in Calabar.

Also, speaking, the Deputy Director & Head, Engineering Services of the CRS Ministry of Power, Engineer Effiwatt Archibong, frowned at the peak of cable thefts and vandalization of the transformer substation in the area, he confided to the newsmen that, the Cross river State Ministry of Power has opted to install the transformer above the ground level to curtail hoodlum from looting the cables.

"The transformer is forthwith mounted on the poles to stave off hoodlums looting the iron cores and armored cables which are the main source of the power diffusion. "Also, we have engaged the vigilantes and Operation Akpakwu to secure the power stream to avoid thefts, snatching them away," Engineer Effiwatt, Said.

The community dwellers, however, commended the phenomenon strides of the governor for the repairs of the road lights.

The residents and traders unified that, the restored road lights will assist strengthen the security resilience of vigilantes in the neighborhood and boost their businesses to flourish during night falls, "We can now stay longer till 10 pm to sell here, rather than, closing our shops by 8 pm," the Trader's Soliloquized in Excitement.
