The benefits of toilet digester can not be over emphasized. Are you aware that poor sewerage management can lead to the spread of deadly diseases like cholera? Cholera out-break have the tendency to claim the lives of many. In Nigeria, cholera have claimed the lives of many more than Covid-19. It is true that cholera is a water borne disease that is spread through the consumption of contaminated water or surfaces.

Conventional septic tanks in many ways, spread cholera to us. For example, the waste in the septic tanks can contaminate our drinking water especially during water hence, any consumption of such water risks the chances of being infected by cholera. Also, septic tanks are the best breeding places for cockroaches and house flies. These insects can from the septic tanks, perch on our food, water, clean surfaces and so on and in turn, contaminate them and any contact with the mouth, can lead to the deadly disease known as cholera. With the use of eco-friendly bio toilet digester, you are safe from the risk of cholera.

How Do Toilet Digesters Work?
A bio digester usually has three anaerobic chambers that treat human waste effectively without the need for any cleaning or emptying of the tank. After the toilet is flushed waste is directly deposited in the first chamber where solid material settles to the bottom of the tank where anaerobic bacteria cultures set to work breaking the waste down. Once the chamber is full, liquids flow into the second chamber and the process is the same, except the waste contains less solid matter.

By the time the waste reaches the third chamber and is ready to exit any harmful pathogens have been removed from the water. The chamber itself is a filter, when you flush your water closet (WC), the digester filters the toilet waste water through grades of sand, fibre net and porous concrete, allowing non-toxic clean and odorless water to drain out to your garden, soak away or gutter.

It simply means only the waste will go to the small box, and only water will leave the box to a soak away, drainage or trench. There is a chemical called bio-enzyme and a treated fiber that will be added to this system and their work is just to invite friendly bacterias into the box, which depends on the waste (excrete) to survive, the more you use the system the more they continue feeding and surviving on the waste, and it will never get filled up.

The process also creates gasses that are released from the tank without causing environmental damage. Since bio digester systems require an anaerobic tank to operate (anaerobic=no oxygen) the entire process is completely free from any nasty smells too.

Through the process of anaerobic digestion, toilet digesters do not produce any harmful, smelly or foul smell. Septic tanks are constructed some meters away from living areas because of the smelly, irritating and harmful odor it produces especially when it nears or gets filled up. Toilet digesters on the other hand, can be installed close to your window because it doesn’t produce and bad odor. This is possible with the digester because of the absence of oxygen in the digester. The digester only produces gas which if produced in a larger quantity, can be used for cooking or for the generation of electricity.

A toilet digester is clean, free of pests like rats due to the absence of oxygen which these pests need for respiration. The digester is not dug deep in the ground like the septic toilet there by removing the fear of any possible contamination of water when using the toilet digester.
