By Dapo Akinrefon

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, on Thursday, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to assent the Electoral Act bill (amended) saying it will remove power from the back-room leaders and hand true power to the people.

George said this when he received convener of the Lagos4Lagos movement, Mr. Olajide Adediran fondly called Jandor and his supporters in Lagos.

He said: “At this juncture, as we will be entering a new season of campaign in the next few months, I will be remissed if I fail to mention the very pivotal new bill presently on the President’s table. The direct primary bill which was overwhelmingly passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate will not only deepen our democratic process, it will basically remove power from the back-room leaders and hand true power to the people. It is a great opportunity for President Muhammodu Buhari to ensure a great place for himself in the pantheon of our democratic heroes. He should sign this bill and the electronic transfer of result bill.”

INEC has already assured Nigerians that they are willing and capable to adopt these innovations. Mr. President must never lose this opportunity to reclaim the moral high ground in the history of our nation.

“Democracy is about the People’s will, the People’s voice, the collective participation in the guidance of the state. It is never about a privileged few determining the fate of the nation in some secret conclave. It is always about open, equitable involvement in governance.

“This may be our last opportunity to rebuild a genuine, fair and just nation that generations yet unborn will be proud of. Let Mr. President begin that process now. Let him lead this cause. History will be kind to him if he stands with the people. May the good Lord bless our nation and set us on the right path.”

On Jandor’s entry to the PDP, he said: “Here in Lagos, our party, the People’s Democratic Party, is welcoming a new infusion of massive decampees from the crumbling APC led by Mr. Abdulazeez Olajide Adediran popularly called Jandor.

“We welcome Mr. Adediran and his followers who have decided to abandon the sinking and the blighted ship of the APC for a renewed, energized, invigorated, forward looking PDP.

“Let it be known by all and sundry that the strength of all political parties reside precisely in their population.

“The more the merrier. A good political party does not turn people away. It embraces everyone who can contribute to the progress of the party.

“For those of us who are already in the People’s Democratic Party in Lagos, let us welcome the new entrants with warm, open embrace. They are coming to add values to our party.

“We know who the enemy is. We know those who are despoiling the riches of our state. We know the man who is carting away 9 billion naira every 30 days from our collective coffers.

“There is no need for unnecessary enmity. There is no need to feel threatened about our new members. We must work together to achieve victory. Everyone will be given a level playing ground to achieve their aspirations. Politics is always a game of number.

“We can only strengthen ourselves when we embrace and encourage those who are joining our team and sincerely work with them to take our state back from the prodigal mis-managers.

“I believe our people will troop out in their thousands to welcome Mr. Adediran and his followers when they make their official declaration in January.

“No one should feel threatened about the people who are joining us. The umbrella is big enough to give us all effective protection and salvaging refuge.”

In his remarks, Jandor promised to abide by the rules and regulations of the Lagos PDP.

Direct primaries has its pros and cons, same as indirect primaries.
One of the cons of direct primaries is the cost implications, the cost of running direct primaries would be very huge for the nations coffers, but then it'll give power to the people. Fact is that the governors are fighting it because then they can't entirely make choice for the people. But bare in mind that these governor can be very desperate and the resources at their disposal is very large that they can do anything and go any extent.
Direct primaries can be influenced, na Nigeria we dy, but then let's give it a try and give power back to the people.
I am for direct primaries.

They will just write figures like Anambra and winners declared....it is not the law, it is the implementation. Is democracy not about freedom of choice again? Why made a medium of primary compulsory for parties?

You can do better...
Hating Tinubu for every singular decision , steps or new thing in the country is a sign , you have placed him in your heart above others things...
Be reminded, Tinubu is just an ordinary human being like you, your present and past state Governors, your religion and region leaders, who ordinarily are not known or having any significant effect in d the same country where you shout Tinubu to bed and woke hope with his name everyday

ex-Convict Chief Bode George is Tinubu's most bitter enemy because Tinubu colluded with Bode George's friend Olusegun Obasanjo to put Bode George behind the bar because Bode George used a profession way to steal government's money by splitting contracts that were beyond his authorization.

But today, Bode George is screaming the sane thing that Tinubu has be saying since 2015, that is; direct primaries is the true test of democratic principles.

You go cry for long. Presidency must come to the South. Bring out your candidates and mobilize voters for them.

Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo is currently world's best Economist. He taught World Bank, European Central Bank, Asian Development Bank, ADB, IMF and others how to manage the economy when you notice that Recession is approaching. While the world was crying over Recession, Nigerians were laughing and doing Owambe party every weekend under Soludo's leadership of CBN.

Don't say Soludo is already a governor, Atikuchukwu the Cameroonian bisexual has also won election before Obasanjo picked him as VP.

Dr Ogbonnaya Onu is Nigeria's only stainless technocratic politician. He has been in government for long, yet there is no single case or rumour of fraud or embezzlement against him.

Peter Obituary the Pandora money launderer is also manageable. He no steal, he just used professional crook way to hide money. He is very experienced in economic matters haven been a bank's Chairman and a state governor.

Bring out your best hands, mobilize for them and let them face the Yoruba candidates. You already know that our number one and number two candidates are Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Jagaban Borgu and Professor Yemi Osinbajo. Be prepared to meet them at the general election. Tinubu has the structure already and he has started mobilizing, if eventually he does not contest, he will use his structure and our looted money to support Osinbajo.

But while the Yorubas are already strategizing and mobilizing from the grassroots up to deep into the core North, you Igbos are still undecided in what you want. Is it when Yorubas have gotten all support from the Almajaris that form the largest voting block that you want to start your own mobilization?

Presidency MUST come to the South. It doesn't matter whether it is Yoruba, Igbo, Ijaw, Kalabari, Ikwerre, Itshekiri, Edo or Ibiobio. Presidency MUST come to the South.

No Igbo man will be President today and he will say he does not know Yorubas or Itshekiris or Ibiobios, we will turn it to serious fight and then settle it among ourselves. Likewise if it is Yoruba or Efik. But Fulanis have been there since and have marginalized others including their landlord the Hausas and even killed several Nigerians.

No Southerner should hide behind any Northerner to fight fellow Southerners. Any Southerner that does that is a traitor and traitors die miserably.

In my honest view, an Igbo man should be the next President. Igbos are better money managers. Since some other tribes have done it and things are getting worse, let Igbos too try it. But, one thing is sure, Power is not given on a platter of Gold. You have to fight for it and snatch it. Nobody will zone Presidency to your village in Umuahia or Aguleri, you have to fight for it and snatch it. So, Igbos should come out and fight for what they desire and deserve. Victory is sweet when fought for.

don't they write results in gubernatorial and presidential elections?

You guys prefer election were delegates are bought by politicians with biggest bags of dollars.

Direct primary is conducted in all the wards in the state,it gives each party members sense of belonging in decision making.

Let the Parties decide the mode they are best comfortable with.

How the president and his party that made it seem the direct primary was the best thing after party jollof in 2019 is having cold feet about same is a wonder.

I can understand PDP's reservation because they are specialists in doing the godfatherism thing, but the change merchant are a fraud.

Our integrity merchant has basically rejected two electoral bills in 4 years, the fraud ran to Turkey when he is not needed anywhere there.

Infact, Tinubu is the frontier of direct primary. You appear to not know and understand much!

Only a politician with strong grassroots wins direct election.
