Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that the senior Secondary School education system in Ghana will be moved from 3years to 6years, Siggy reports.

According to him, the move forms part of efforts to transform secondary education in Ghana with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) at the center. This comes shortly after he stated that the government is determined to revamp STEM education in Ghana.

Dr. Adutwum also stated that after the county education system is implemented, the number of high schools in Ghana will be decreased from 13,000 to around 2,500.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, Dec. 14, Dr. Adutwum said; “In 2023 when we open those schools you are going to see how we are going to provide six years of quality secondary education and not three years plus some three years old middle school-led education that we call high school”.

Sounds like a good idea to implement STEM... I hope it brings the quality of education intended.

Commendable. STEM courses are very important now and integrating it early in the curriculum is ideal.

One Man's food is another Man's poison.

It is also another method to reduce the pressure in labour market.

The best learning is through practical....


Set labs for Chemistry and include practical periods of 4times a week while theory will be twice a week ..

This way, the students will learn how to face realities and have good results...

Same should go for physics, fine arts, biology, etc...

While on the art subjects, you set a school shop and have the students practice business management and book keeping....

Grouping these students in each class..

Give them just a year and see how many of those who wouldn't be financially capable of continuing their studies will be capable of handling business effectively.


Our problem is solely the curriculum...

There is nothing commendable bout this horse shit. A president is trying to reduce the number of schools from 13000 to 2500 and you couldn't see a disaster looming? Moreover STEM shouldn't be made compulsory for every student because mathematics or any other science is not made for every students. No matter the qualifications of the teachers some students will still not understand it

Reducing the number of school doesn't mean the number of students in school will reduce also..they are school internationally that can admit hundred thousand of applicants a year.
